In the last few days, there have been multiple reports of TE Rob Gronkowski’s possible return to the NFL to reunite with longtime teammate Tom Brady. Gronkowski, who retired from professional football earlier this year, has played in the NFL only alongside Brady. He was with Brady at the New England Patriots from 2010 to 2018, and once again was with him for the 2020 and 2021 seasons at Bucs.

Gronkowski is a 4-time Super Bowl champion and is regarded as one of the most impactful tight ends in the history of the sport. Renowned pundit and journalist Ian Rapoport provided more news on Gronkowski’s probable return and has speculated about his return to the league. Rapoport reminded everyone that it all started with Gronkowski’s tweet and things caught fire when it was reportedly said that Gronkowski was in talks with the Bucs for a possible return.

“Remember last week he tweeted ‘I’m bored’ and everyone’s like, does he want to play football again?… Gronk is not going to come back and play for the Bucs this year,” Rapoport said.

Rapoport said that Gronkowski won’t ‘unretire’ this season but added that there is a real possibility of him coming back from retirement in 2023. Even Brady’s contract will end after this season and he’ll be a free agent. So, Rapoport believed that Gronkowski could just follow Brady to wherever he intends to go and this buildup will be the talking point during the offseason.

He is retired for now but certainly from my understanding, the door is open for 2023 and of course, we’ve talked Tom Brady, a free agent at the end of this year… The Bucs want him back but there is the possibility of him going somewhere else if he doesn’t retire wouldn’t be surprised if Gronk followed him wherever he went. Obviously, that is something we will be keeping an eye on this offseason,” he added.

It is likely that Brady won’t announce his retirement at the end of this season and speculation about his next team has already started. He has been linked with his former team, the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers, two teams very close to his heart. With QB Tua Tagovailoa not firing as expected, Brady could be a good fit for the Miami Dolphins, and Gronkowski’s addition with the likes of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the Dolphins’ offense would be among the best in the NFL.
