Rob Gronkowski has played in the NFL for 11 years and has created a legacy that is going to land him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the near future. Gronk is considered one of the best tight ends in league history because of his catching skills as well as his blocking. His ability to block pass rushers made him a deadly combination for the opposition.
The 33-year-old was selected in the second round by the New England Patriots in the 2010 NFL draft. He quickly became a favorite of Tom Brady and was a major contributor to the Patriots dynasty.
However, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbow for Gronkowski in Foxborough. While in conversation with Kay Adams o FanDuel’s “Up & Adams”, Gronk talked about the Patriots’ culture candidly.
Rob Gronkowski says winning a game felt like they still lost the game the next day
Kay Adams asked Rob Gronkowski what was Tom Brady’s reaction after losing a match or winning for that matter. “A regular-season game with the Patriots actually, throughout my 20s, if we won a game, the next day it felt like we still lost a game,” Gronk told Adams. “And if we lost a game, it felt like you were in super depression for like two days or like for the whole week.
“So that’s what made you really want to win the games when you were with the Patriots: Because you didn’t want to ever feel that depression feeling for the two days after the game. You’re like, ‘We have to win the game. We have to win the game so we have a good week, so we feel good tomorrow.’”
Looks like even winning wasn’t a fun experience in New England, and rightly so. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick created such a strong dynasty that their losing a match was like a Halley’s Comet in the NFL. The organization won six Super Bowls from 2001 to 2018 until Brady moved on to Tampa Bay. As everyone knows that losing is never an option for the 45-year-old legend, there was a lot of non-stop and rigorous work ethic that needed to be followed.
Greatness comes at a sacrifice and the Patriots were willing to pay it and that’s the reason why their feat can never be achieved by any other team in the league. Rob Gronkowski is now in his second retirement and looks like he might come back once again for Tom Brady. He retired back in 2018 when Brady left the Patriots and then joined him in Tampa and won his fourth Super Bowl.
After playing for one more season, Gronk announced his retirement in 2021 and reports suggest that the legendary tight end might be making his second comeback in the 2023 season. Where he lands is totally dependent on Brady because they will come as a package deal.
