The New England Patriots were the first team to be officially eliminated from the postseason contention with a record of just 3 wins and 10 losses through 14 weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season. Following the poor campaign, new reports suggest the Pats owner Robert Kraft might have already decided to move on from the veteran head coach, Bill Belichick.
According to NBC Boston reporter Tom Curran, Kraft decided to move on from Belichick following the Patriots’ ugly week 10 loss against the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt, Germany.
When they came out of Germany, conversations I had that week made it very clear that a decision was made. They were going to play out the string, and at the end of the year, there would be a parting of the ways for a variety of reasons.Curran via Boston.com
Curran added that Robert Kraft will let Belichick finish out the season as the Patriots before moving on from him. He added that there’s a possibility, the Patriots might look to get something in return for him via a trade. That would explain why Kraft would allow Belichick to stay with the team to finish the season.
But, Curran made it clear that Kraft has made up his mind about moving from the most successful head coach in his franchise’s history. He said that Belichick is beyond the point of saving his job in New England.
It had gone too far. The Germany game. The Commanders game. The Saints game. All huge, marquee games. And then there was the Chargers game after that.Curran said.
Patriots win against the Steelers won’t save Bill Belichick, claims Tom Curran
Last week, the Patriots shocked the NFL world by defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers in their week 14 matchup. However, it won’t save Bill Belichick from getting traded according to Boston.com.

Curran believes the Patriots have lost enough under Belichick and Kraft is ready to turn the franchise to a new leader. Just before the Steelers game, the Pats suffered a humiliating 0-6 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Regardless of Curran’s reports, there’s a possibility Belichick could save his job by winning out the remaining games. His new quarterback Bailey Zappe has shown promising flashes and could help him turn his season around.
However, would Belichick want to stay in New England? Just a few weeks ago, reports suggested that Belichick himself has decided to leave the Patriots for a much better situation like the Chargers. So, in the end, the Pats and Belichick could mutually work out to find a trade partner.
