The veteran head coach Bill Belichick’s era is seemingly coming to an end in New England. He has been a successful head coach of the New England Patriots team for more than 20 years, but now, a recent stretch of poor campaigns has allegedly placed him on a hot seat. Previously, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky reported that Belichick already has a destination on his mind if he decides to leave the Patriots in the offseason.
And now, Pro Football Hall of Fame voter Gary Meyers believes the Patriots head coach Bill Belichick’s next destination is likely to be the Los Angeles Chargers.
One of my well-placed sources believe the Chargers are the favorites for Bill Belichick in 2024: Excellent QB; team ready to win; Belichick likes California and the beach.Meyers wrote on Twitter
This report from Meyers comes just a day after Dan Orlovsky appeared on The Pat McAfee show and said that Belichick already knows his future destination. Orlovsky didn’t mention any team names, but the show host Pat McAfee did mention the Chargers as one potential landing spot as he had heard that from his sources.
Nonetheless, just a few weeks ago, reports emerged that the New England-based football team signed Bill Belichick to an extension in the off-season. This means, that the Pats would seek compensation if they were to move on from one of the most successful head coaches in the league’s history.
As of now, the Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Washington Commanders have emerged as the frontrunners to land the veteran head coach, if he were to part ways with the Patriots following the 2023 season.
Experts believe Bill Belichick’s time in New England is over
The idea that Bill Belichick could coach any other team except the Patriots is very absurd, but it is highly likely to happen soon since many experts believe Belichick is heading towards an exit from New England.
Belichick has coached the Patriots for 24 years and has led them to 6 Super Bowl championship rings. He is one of only three head coaches to have registered 300 or more victories in the NFL regular season.
However, Belichick has been having a rough stretch of 3 years with the Patriots, ever since Tom Brady left them back in 2020. And now, it seems like the Pats owner Robert Kraft is ready to move on from the 71-year-old head coach and rebuild his team from scratch.
