“We’re nearing the end of investigation”: Roger Goodell has stated that the NFL is done looking into Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson
The Cleveland Browns took a massive bet this offseason by trading for the Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, they paid him over $200 million and locked him in for a long term. This was while the NFL was conducting an investigation into him following allegations of sexual harassment by nearly 22 women against him. No team in the league wanted to pursue him as they did not know his status and what disciplinary action the league will take against him.
It has been nearly a year since the NFL began investigating him, and it appears that they are finally closing in on a conclusion. During the course of the investigation, the league spoke to the victims and Watson as well. They met with the QB recently and are likely to summon him once more in the coming weeks. Last week we came across reports that the league office would be wrapping the investigation up by mid-June.

“I can’t give you a timeline”: Roger Goodell on the status of the investigation into Deshaun Watson
The Commissioner was asked about the status of this investigation as it has been over a year and there is no visible ending in sight. The parties involved are all beginning to get impatient. The Cleveland Browns organization is desperately waiting to know the status of Watson’s availability as they need a plan B in case the quarterback cannot play this season. The victims involved and the public are all looking at this case closely as they want to see how the league deals with this matter.
If the NFL does not take adequate disciplinary action, it may lead people to believe that the league will let you off the hook for serious offenses if you are talented enough. Commissioner Goodell had this to say about the ongoing investigation. “I can’t give you a timeline.” This is disappointing as we expected a verdict by mid-June.
“I think we’re nearing the end of the investigative period. Then it will be handled by our disciplinary officer.” Goodell made it clear that as soon as the investigation concludes and the league decides if Watson is guilty or not, the league’s disciplinary officer will take over and decide what punishment to give him. Until then, Watson and his availability for this season hang in the balance.
