Looks like Ron Rivera knows what goes inside the Washington Commanders franchise, as he remained unbothered about losing his job. After the devastating and embarrassing 45-10 defeat by the hands of the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, Rivera’s position as head coach may be reconsidered.
However, the head coach Rivera isn’t worried about that, as he told ESPN:
I've told you before I'm not worried about anything. All I'm going to do is do my job and see how things go. That's the only thing I can do.
Notably, Commanders players as well aren’t blaming head coach Rivera and doubting his future in the team. While talking to the left tackle Charles Leno Jr., he said, “It’s only when you guys ask,” believing that he and the whole Washington team are more focused on listening to the coaches and trying to score a win, rather than caring about the fourth-year head coach’s future in the team.
Even though the Commanders won the NFC East under Rivera back in 2020, what’s more focused is the team hasn’t had a winning record since 2016. And this season, after losing eight games out of 12, there are slim chances for them to reach the postseason.
While talking on the matter, Washington’s owner John Harris has also assured that he isn’t planning to change the management right in the middle of the ongoing season. He prefers to give the Commanders coaching staff a whole season, in order to evaluate them more firmly.
Is Ron Rivera’s future with Commanders in jeopardy?
Since his time with the Commanders, Rivera hasn’t had a winning season record, though the team reached the NFC East championship at 7-9, all thanks to quarterback Geno Smith. And Rivera surely doesn’t take credit for that.
Before joining Washington, Rivera had a much more successful time with the Carolina Panthers for 12 years. He logged 76-63-1 with them, along with a Super Bowl appearance as well. However, he was fired from the team in 2019 after Week 13 of his final season.
And now the ineffectiveness in Washington makes it more interesting to see whether they made it to the offseason or not. It would decide his fate with the team, as Harris would rather prefer his own hand-picked coach for his newly bought franchise for its rebuilding effort.
