“Want to make this a Destination”: Broncos QB Russell Wilson wants to make Denver a HOTSPOT for Pro Bowlers

The Russell Wilson hate is real this season.

This season is a fresh start for the Denver Broncos. The team has had arguably one of the best offseasons in comparison to any other team in the league, they have improved at every spot and in the positions that they lacked players in, the team made key trades and now has the perfect balance of veterans and young talent. Trading for Russell Wilson was the move that shook the league, that one move had the entire league viewing the Broncos as a threat to win the Super Bowl even before they had played a single game.

The Denver Broncos have new ownership at the helm as well, for long the team has not been a destination that free agent stars across the NFL have considered to be a top spot to land in. The last time you would have heard a star claim that he wants to play in Denver, it was when Peyton Manning was in his prime. However, with this blockbuster offseason, the Broncos have put themselves back on the map.

For Russell Wilson, it is all about attempting to keep enough space on the salary cap to pay up for talent:

The Denver Broncos have a great national schedule as well, with seven nationally-televised games, and five prime-time games this season, the team has a lot of hype surrounding it, Russell Wilson’s latest chant, “Let’s Ride” has fans all the more excited for the team’s performance this season.

For Russell Wilson, it is now once again about building a dynasty, he wants to stick around in Denver and his 5-year, $245 million contract proves that. But dynasties are not built overnight, and neither are Super Bowl contenders. Russell Wilson wants to do everything in his capacity to ensure that Denver becomes a “destination location” for free agents across the league.

Wilson sets his priorities straight, “To me, what it was really about being able to win championships and being able to have enough space in the salary cap so George(Paton, the GM) make his magic and we can get guys like Randy Gregory when he comes on the team or other great players, we want to make this a destination location, it’s one of those things (where) we have an amazing tradition, amazing football team,” it is clear he is looking to ensure that his contract is designed in a flexible manner which ensures he gets paid while not destroying the team’s cap space and subsequent ability to attract top free agents.

The last time we saw anything of this scale, in terms of hype and fanfare in Denver, Peyton Manning was the team’s quarterback. It has been a rough stretch for Broncos fans ever since their former HOF quarterback retired. Their primary issue has always been the lack of a franchise quarterback, when the QB position is uncertain, the entire team has already been put at a disadvantage. Russell Wilson is the missing piece for this team with so much potential.

“My focus is winning, that’s why I came here, to win. My number one focus was winning and doing everything, the whole process of that. We’re on that journey right now and looking forward to it,” Russell Wilson concludes. The quarterback is viewing this season as a Super Bowl or bust type of scenario, nevertheless, we are hyped to see the new-look Broncos this season!
