All the sports fraternity is talking about, since last night, is Jon Jones, as they rightly should. After almost three years, Jones entered the octagon once again but in a different weight category and proved that he is still the greatest of all time by winning the heavyweight title. The 6’4″ fighter had his opponent Ciryl Gane submit in the first round itself.
The T-Mobile Arena was packed with stars from every sport including the NFL. Legendary quarterback Tom Brady was accompanied by Mike Evans. And the two were enjoying the game of sweat and blood flying all over the ring. Those who were not in attendance expressed their excitement and congratulated the new World Heavyweight Champion on Twitter.
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was among those athletes who couldn’t attend the historic fight physically but didn’t miss the action that lasted all of 2 minutes. Wilson tweeted, “Dominant @JonnyBones #UFC285.” Both Jones and Wilson have one thing in common: they are resilient and won’t let a poor season or bad fighting slump bring them down. Just as Jon Jones has risen from the ashes like a phoenix, the Broncos quarterback is looking to do the same in the 2023 season.

Russell Wilson is looking for a comeback in 2023
Last year, the Seattle Seahawks traded the best quarterback to ever play for the franchise, Russell Wilson, to the Denver Broncos. While the main reason for this gets later revealed that the perennial Pro Bowler wanted head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider fired from the team, it was still a major shock for everyone in the league. Wilson’s last season in Seattle was one of the worst and his first losing season record with 6-8. It was evident to everyone on the roster that the dual-threat quarterback was going to leave the team.
Russell Wilson chose Denver as his trade destination because he thought the team was in a perfect position to win championships. However, it didn’t turn out exactly as he wished it would. His first year as the Broncos’ signal-caller was the most disastrous season of his career. In the 15 games he started, Wilson went 4-11. Many fans and analysts attributed Wilson’s poor performance to the special treatment he received in Denver.
Along with signing a five-year $245 million contract, the Super Bowl XLVIII champion was given his own personal office in the Broncos facility and parking spaces. Wilson was also allowed to bring his personal coach into the facility and monitor him during practice sessions. This kind of special treatment was unheard of in the league and even 7x Super Bowl champions did not enjoy such benefits.
However, once Sean Payton took over as the head coach of the Broncos early this year, he made it crystal clear that he wasn’t aware of such practices and ensured that it won’t continue under him. This might actually help Russell Wilson get back into form. He is a player and not an executive. His place in the facility should be with his teammates in the locker room and not behind closed doors in an office.
Experts have theorized that Russell Wilson will return to his Pro Bowl self now that Payton is the head coach. The 34-year-old has the ability to win another Super Bowl and with the right direction and coaching, he can achieve that. Let’s see if fans get to see the old Wilson back in 2023 or not.
