The Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf was having the time of his life in the past week when he participated and won the MVP award in the NBA celebrity All-Star game. Furthermore, he also posted an insane out-of-the-world one-handed catch that went viral on social media. Though, it might’ve been doctored to make it more impressive than it actually was.

However, his eventful week has caught the eyes of the NFL. The 6-4′ wide receiver posted a text message on his social media account which revealed that he has been selected for a random drug test by the league. Now, this is nothing new since every time a football player does something out of ordinary, they’ve been hit with a random drug test by the league.

For context, the Cleveland Browns‘ star defensive end Myles Garrett gets picked for a drug test every time he plays with a sleeveless jersey. In the NFL, drug testing is an essential part and according to reports, they drug test their players more aggressively than any other sports league in the world. During the season, the league tests around 350 players a week per reports.

And now, the Pro Bowl receiver Metcalf is hit with a drug test in the off-season meaning the league could test players even in the off-season. According to Journal Sentinel, an individual player could be tested up six times in the offseason.

DK Metcalf signed a three-year $72 million contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks tying him to the franchise through 2025. The 25-year-old wideout is one of the best receivers in the game right but he still has a long way to go to reach his full potential.

The former second-round draft pick has two 1000 yards seasons in his 4 years and has been to only one Pro Bowl. Also, he has yet to get the first-team All-Pro nod from the league.

In his first four years, Metcalf has registered himself as someone capable of being a true number-one wide receiver in the league. In fact, he is now due for a breakout season and could possibly go off in the 2023 season with Pro Bowler Geno Smith as his quarterback.

Metcalf’s best year came in 2020 when he caught 83 passes for 1303 yards and 10 touchdowns. And now, the WR is entering his fifth year with the hopes of surpassing his previous best and establishing himself as an elite wide receiver.
