The Dallas Cowboys had yet another disappointing season as they failed to cross the divisional playoffs and reach the NFC Championship game for 28 straight years now. Every year, fans are led to believe that this is the year when America’s Team earns back its elite status, but every year they continue to be a disappointment.

The Cowboys went 12-5 during the regular season and were showing signs of becoming a Super Bowl contender, but their inconsistency crept up from the shadow and plagued the team like it does every year. Quarterback Dak Prescott was the focal point of this inconsistency because he couldn’t get the offense going on more than one occasion.

Dallas’ offense ranked 11th overall and was fourth overall in points scored per game, which is why it came as a shock when the organization fired offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Moore worked with the Cowboys for four years prior to his firing. However, the Los Angeles Chargers saw his potential and the impact he would make with Justin Herbert and the offense, so they hired him a day after the Cowboys parted ways with him.

Undisputed co-host Shannon Sharpe took offense with the Cowboys firing Kellen Moore for their playoff exit. “This is what we have seen for the last three-four years. Dak Prescott got a head coach fired in Jason Garrett. Now he got an offensive coordinator fired in Kellen Moore,” Shannon said. He said that someone who’s paying $40 million to a guy should focus his energy on why that guy is not giving the returns which are expected of him rather than firing everyone around him.

Sharpe further added that Kellen Moore did an excellent job in reviving the Cowboys’ offense, especially backup quarterback Cooper Rush. “You wouldn’t even be in this situation if it wasn’t for Kellen Moore getting what he got out of Cooper Rush. That alone should’ve kept his job,” Shannon added. Cooper Rush was named the starting quarterback in Week 2 after Dak Prescott suffered an injury.

Rush won four straight games out of the five except the Week 6 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. He had a completion percentage of 58.0 and threw for 1,051 yards, five touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Shannon also pointed out that Dak Prescott finished second in the league in fumbles and also had his career-high 15 interceptions. “Turning the ball over is in Dak’s DNA. At some point of time, you’ve got to come to the realization Dak is not a top-10 quarterback. At some point you got to stop firing everyone around him and realize damn it’s you'” Sharpe said.

Shannon Sharpe reiterated that maybe it is Dak Prescott who is the problem and not the coaches. Jerry Jones fired Jason Garrett and brought on Mike McCarthy who won the Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers and still, the Cowboys haven’t reached the least of all the NFC Championship game. So, maybe it is time that the Cowboys move on from Prescott who is yet to deliver a championship, despite his seven years in Dallas.

No matter how many coaches the Cowboys fire, if the main problem is the quarterback, then even legendary coaches like John Madden and Vince Lombardi couldn’t win the Super Bowl with such a player under the center.
