Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys has been under a lot of pressure this season. After a 15-interception season last year, Prescott was under fire from a lot of pundits. However, the criticism cooled down a bit after a decent start to the 2023 season. Until the Dallas team played the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.
Prescott struggled throughout the game, throwing three interceptions as the Cowboys were manhandled by the Niners, 42-10. The Cowboys’ QB faced a lot of criticism after the game as he was outdueled by the Niners’ second-year quarterback Brock Purdy. Former NFL legend and current ESPN analyst Shannon Sharpe slammed Prescott for his performance against the 49ers on the First Take show.
“I believe [Stephon Gilmore] will help your defense. But guess what, you’re gonna probably lose 12 to nine. You will probably lose 10 to seven because your quarterback, despite missing five games, was top of the league in interceptions. So, in other words, turnovers are in his DNA. He had three pick-sixes…” Sharpe said on the show.
He further continued by saying, “When are you going to fix that weakness? Your roof is leaking. Why [do] you keep buying a washer and dryer…? The Cowboys keep addressing the issues that weren’t the problem. Defense wasn’t the issue, they still have Dak.”
The Cowboys started the season by beating the New York Giants 40-0. They were one of the Super Bowl favorites this year. In their first real test against the Niners however, they were soundly outplayed and will hope to bounce back against the Los Angeles Chargers next Monday.
Donte Whitner slams Dak Prescott after poor performance against the 49ers
Dak Prescott’s performance against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday attracted a lot of criticism. The QB threw three interceptions and just one touchdown against the Niners as the Dallas Cowboys were thrashed by 32 points. Former NFL star Donte Whitner slammed Prescott for his poor outing.
“Dak Prescott sucks,” Whitner said while talking on NBC Sports Bay Area. “Period. Right? They talked so much about Dak Prescott being a top-tier quarterback, franchise guy – I don’t see it. I see them trying to cover up for what he lacks. A lot of quick throws, cutting half of the field off and giving him easy throws.”
He further continued, “Other than that, he’s not a quarterback that can drop back and really take advantage of a defense and carve it up. And today, we’ve seen it. The 49ers defense made him look like a tier-four quarterback.”
Whitner played in the NFL for 11 years. He was drafted 8th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft and was a three-time Pro-Bowler. He played for the Niners for three years. Whitner hasn’t played professional football since 2016.
