The Buccaneers recently signed the former Rams QB Baker Mayfield to replace their former franchise quarterback Tom Brady. It is not that bad of a signing, especially considering it is just a one-year deal, but still the Fox Sports analyst Shannon Sharpe is not happy with this signing.

Tom Brady spent the last three years as the Buccaneers‘ quarterback and led them to three postseason appearances, 2 NFC South division titles, and moreover, one Super Bowl Championship victory. But last month, Brady suddenly announced his retirement from the sport and is now enjoying some father time with his kids. The Buccaneers, who were hoping for his return, were left without a veteran QB and went shopping in the free agency to sign one.

And now, they have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the former Rams QB Baker Mayfield. The one-year deal indicates Mayfield would most probably just act as a bridge quarterback, who can groom the Bucs’ former second-round draft pick, Kyle Trask. But still, there will be a quarterback battle in the Buccaneers’ training camp and if Mayfield can prove his worth, he might get signed to a long-term deal.

For now, the 27-year-old QB is just under a “prove it” deal which could benefit the Tampa Bay-based football team. So, the Bucs camp is relatively happy about their QB choice, but the Fox Sports analyst and a long-time Tom Brady critic Shannon Sharpe is not.

During a recent episode of the Fox Sports show UNDISPUTED, Shannon Sharpe slammed the Buccaneers for signing Baker Mayfield to replace the greatest quarterback of all time.“Can you imagine going from Tom Brady to Baker Mayfield?” Sharpe said. “I’m surprised Mike Evans or Chris Godwin haven’t requested a trade.”

Additionally, Sharpe also slammed Mayfield and called him one of the greatest disappointments in NFL history. “Baker Mayfield is already one of the most disappointing No.1 overall picks in history,” said Sharpe of Mayfield.

To Sharpe’s point, Mayfield, who was drafted by the Cleveland Browns as the No.1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and after an up and down 4-year stint in Cleveland, he was traded to the Panthers in 2022.

After an unsuccessful brief stint, he was waived by the Panthers and was claimed by the LA Rams during the later stages of the 2022 regular season. And now, he will dress up for a fourth team in just six years since he was drafted. Maybe he will finally prove his worth in Tampa while throwing to a good receiving core.
