A new rivalry has just begun in the NFL between Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes. Both of these quarterbacks are said to rule the league for the next decade and are considered the greatest young quarterbacks.
Both Burrow and Mahomes have changed the face of their teams and led them to the conference championships every season. Joe Burrow has led the Bengals to their second straight AFC title game in his three-year career and Patrick Mahomes has done it every year since he started as the Chiefs’ quarterback five years back.
Now, the much-awaited AFC Championship game between the Chiefs and Bengals is just a day away. It will be a repeat of last year’s game where Cincinnati won it in overtime. Kansas City is now looking for retribution and will try to win against Burrow, who has a formidable record of 3-0 against them.
Bengals look a lot better than the Chiefs heading into the game
Undisputed co-host Shannon Sharpe has picked the Cincinnati Bengals to win the AFC Championship and advance to their second straight Super Bowl. “As much as I wanna pick the Chiefs, I just can’t because I believe the Bengals are the better football team,” Shannon said. “They’ve always found a way to create one turnover game a possession and so that’s why I’m gonna take them.”
Shannon further explained his reason for not choosing the Chiefs to win over the Bengals. The 3x Super Bowl champ said that Kansas City’s defense is what troubles him the most. They ranked 11th overall with second in sacks but 18th in pass defense (220.9 yards per game), 16th in points allowed (21.7 points per game), and 31st in allowing red zone touchdowns. Sharpe believes the Chiefs’ defense isn’t consistent, which might cost them the Lamar Hunt Trophy.
“I just look at the Bengals and look at what they have done offensively, defensively, and special teams. I think the Bengals have the better team. Not a better quarterback. And with that being said, I’m going to take the Cincinnati Bengals to win a very tough, close, hard 30-27 football game,” Sharpe added.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a high ankle injury last week, and he is recovering from that and also said he is healthy enough to play on Sunday but his official status is still undecided. Another blow to Kansas City’s offense happened on Friday when the team had to put future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce on the practice record due to his back injury. Kelce is questionable to play along with receivers Mecole Hardman and Justin Watson.
With the Chiefs not at their 100 percent, it looks like an easy ball game for the Bengals with each department at its best and will win their second AFC title just like Shannon Sharpe predicted.
