“He’s sorry he said it out loud”: Shannon Sharpe claims Washington Commanders HC Ron Rivera does not regret his comments calling Carson Wentz trash
Shannon Sharpe believes Ron Rivera truly meant what he said about Carson Wentz
The Washington Commanders need to consider changing the name of their franchise yet again because this team is not in command of anything. The team ranks at the bottom of the NFC East, having won just one game and losing the other 4. To make matters worse, the Head Coach, Ron Rivera, seems to have lost faith in the abilities of his quarterback, Carson Wentz.
Earlier last week, Ron Rivera was asked about the reason for the Washington Commanders’ disappointing performance this season. The Head Coach did not even flinch for a moment and deflected the blame on quarterback Carson Wentz.
He stated in an instant, “The truth is that this is a quarterback-driven league. If you look at the teams that have had sustained success, they have been able to build it around a specific quarterback.”
“He meant he’s sorry for all the awful, hurtful, and true things he said”: Shannon Sharpe claims Ron Rivera apologized to Carson Wentz just to reduce backlash from the public.
The HC issued an apology after his comments were blown out of proportion. However, Shannon Sharpe of Undisputed does not believe Ron Rivera truly apologized from the bottom of his heart. Ron Rivera may have apologized but he remains convinced that Carson Wentz is the reason the Commanders aren’t going anywhere this season.
Here’s what Sharpe had to say, “Ron Rivera said I’m sorry for all the mean, hurtful, awful, and true things I said about Carson Wentz. He’s sorry that he said this out loud but this is what he thinks. Ron Rivera played in the league, he’s coached in the league, so for him to make this kind of egregious mistake was wrong where he literally placed the blame of everything going on with the Commanders at the feet of Carson Wentz was wrong. He knows it was wrong.“
Shannon Sharpe does not have an issue with Ron Rivera criticizing Carson, but he has a problem with the manner that which the HC did it. “There’s a way he could have said it. ‘You know what, those are the teams that do a great job protecting the football but our defense got to do a better job at taking the football away. We gotta get better on third downs offensively, we gotta be able to get people off the field defensively.’ There’s a way to say it without directly saying it.”
Sharpe goes on to add, “Washington has issues with not just Wentz, they got one takeaway, we are five weeks into the season, they’ve taken the ball away once. Ron Rivera was wrong. Carson Wentz is what he is at this point in time. I’m sure Carson Wentz is hurt by this because nobody wants to be the sole blame or have it seem like I’m the sole blame for why we’re not winning.
Shannon Sharpe cites the issues with the Washington Commanders this season, “They’re not winning because offensively they’re not very good, defensively there’s nothing. Ron Rivera apologized but he said, ‘Í’m sorry for all the true things that I said, I shouldn’t have said it loud in front of the media.”
The Washington Commanders have been an underwhelming team this season, there is no better way to put it. The team lacks weapons on offense and their defense is average at best. However, the team has not been able to execute this season and as a result are at the bottom of what is supposed to be one of the worst divisions in the NFL.
