Pittsburgh Steelers’ general manager, Omar Khan is already ringing in the changes at the franchise in what will be his second season at the position. Khan’s latest recruit for the Steelers came in the form of former New York Jets linebacker, Kwon Alexander.
The 28-year-old signed a one-year contract with the Steelers and will add much-needed depth to their defensive stocks ahead of the 2023/24 NFL season. Alexander had already visited the Steelers camp in May this year and became the second Jets player to make the move this offseason.
Pittsburgh Steelers have been highly active in the free agent market this offseason, with Omar Khan looking to rope in talented players into the franchise. Khan’s move to sign Kwon Alexander has also earned him praise from the Steelers fans, who desperately want their team to qualify for the playoffs in the upcoming season after they failed to do so in 2022/23. Check out a few fan reactions on Omar Khan –
Omar Khan has had a huge role in signing key players to the Steelers roster this season
Omar Khan since taking over the role in 2022, has been vocal about improving the Steelers roster to make them serious contenders for the Super Bowl. “We had a vision after last season,” Khan said after the team returned to the training camp. “Coach, Art, myself, we got together and we put together a plan of what we wanted — we had a vision of what we wanted the roster to look like this year and how we were going to win football games.”
The Steelers have already made significant additions to their defense this offseason with the signings of Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts, both of whom were free-agent signings. Kwon Alexander is a proven defender in the National Football League, having started his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015.
He was a fourth-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft and earned himself a place in the Pro Bowl team in 2017. While Alexander’s signing improves the depth, the Steelers would also be wary of his poor medical history.
He has not had the best of times physically, suffering multiple serious injuries including a torn pectoral during his time at the San Francisco 49ers in 2019. However, the only positive aspect for Omar Khan and the Steelers fans would be that he featured in all 17 of the regular season games for the Jets in 2022.
