“Greatest talent at QB position,” Stephen A. Smith heavily praises Aaron Rodgers amidst speculations of a Jets trade

“Greatest talent at QB position,” Stephen A. Smith heavily praises Aaron Rodgers amidst speculations of a Jets trade

Aaron Rodgers is the currently the center of attraction in the NFL. The 39-year-old has grabbed the headlines yet again, as his future with the Green Bay Packers remains in the dark, as of now.

Rodgers did not have the best of seasons with the Packers in 2022/23, wherein he failed to earn a playoff spot for his franchise, after a final gameweek defeat against the Detroit Lions. In fact, it was Rodgers’ worst season in terms of his quarterback ratings.

Despite that, he still remains one of the best quarterbacks in the league currently, and is also one of the most sought after in the 2023/24 offseason. He hasn’t committed his future with the Packers, but has held talks with the New York Jets hierarchy almost finalising a move to the franchise.

Due to this reason, the quarterback has once again gained prominence during the offseason and is currently the most debated man in most of the talkshows across the NFL. Popular NFL analyst, Stephen A. Smith is a huge Rodgers fan himself and took up the veteran’s cause in the latest episode of his talkshow, First Take.

Discussing Rodgers’ potential move to the Jets, Smith felt that the quarterback is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league after Patrick Mahomes. He got into a heated argument with Chris Canty with the latter not aligning to his idea of Rodgers’ greatness.

To make his point, Smith said, “He dont have a velocity on his throws, he can’t make every necessary throw. That he can’t fling that football with the degree of accuracy that we’ve seen him do. Did you see him against the Philadelphia Eagles early in the season?… Aaron Rodgers goes out there and reminds you, ‘You must have forgot, who the hell I am.'”

He’s Aaron Rodgers. He’s a BAAADDD man! … Aaron Rodgers is one of, if not the greatest, talent at the quarterback position we have EVER seen this side of Patrick Mahomes.”

On his day, Rodgers is arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the division, however over the past year he has shown chinks in his armour. It will be interesting to see whether he plays next season and can back-up Stephen A. Smith’s claim.
