To this day, it remains a mystery as to why Stephen A. Smith, one of the hottest personalities in sports entertainment, never got married. The veteran NFL analyst cites Kevin Costner’s story as an example of his decision.
Smith flows like a butterfly during First Take, but the ‘Global Leader in Sports’ ESPN has limitations. The presenters have to check themselves before speaking. For more casual talk, Smith has his own platform called the Stephen A. Show. A podcast where the 55-year-old stings like a bee and lets his voice be heard.
As long as he has been in the sportscasting field, there’s one question that has haunted Stephen A. the most: when will he finally tie the knot? For those with curious ears, he puts forward some recent facts that somewhat clear the air.
“I’m 55 years old. I’ve never been married, and I’m happy about it,” Smith said in a recent segment of his podcast. “I am not upset about being single.“
He talks about the recent separation of popular hip-hop artist Jeezy from his wife of two years. Some even speculate that she went through with it because of the alimony.
Not only that, he went one step further and dissected the controversial divorce between Hollywood star Kevin Costner and his wife, Christine Baumgartner. Later, they reportedly went to court and asked for a whopping $250,000 per month as ‘child support’ for their three children. The judge later trimmed the amount to $129,000.
“If Kevin Costner’s monthly child support enables the [children] to maintain the quality of life he once provided, why should he [Kevin Costner] have to pay extra so the wife that he’s no longer with gets to maintain her quality of life?” asked Smith. “Y’all ain’t together!”

Is Stephen A. Smith really single?
That’s a tough question. Besides his recent outburst, there are only a couple of stories regarding his marital status. Apart from that, people close to Stephen A. Smith claim the sports media icon is single.
In a 2019 interview with GQ Magazine, Smith did mention that he was once engaged and was on the verge of getting married. Moreover, he also had two daughters, who were 11 and 10 years old at the time. But he refused to divulge more than that.
“It didn’t work out. As a matter of fact, I just told my sister that the other day: none of your business,” he said. “Something about my job and my money. I said this was not a discussion. You’ll get an answer if I want to give you an answer.”
As per the New York Post, he was seen hanging out with a mystery woman in Barbados. Smith did not disclose who that person was when questioned. Moreover, he was linked to ESPN co-host Molly Qerim.
