Damar Hamlin’s gruesome injury has made the NFL world come to a standstill as many wait and pray for a speedy recovery for the Bills‘ safety who’s currently in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical center.

The 24-year-old safety collapsed during the Bills-Bengals contest as the game was then postponed indefinitely. The players were down on their knees praying for Hamlin as he was undergoing CPR right in the middle of the field. The incident created shockwaves around the NFL world and many showed their support and assistance for the Bills’ safety.

“This is not about a debate, this is about humanity, this is about the life of a young man and the hope and prayers that he recovers and is back healthy and fit,” Stephen A. Smith stated on the First Take “We don’t care about football right now, we care about him.”

The NFL analyst then went on to appreciate Hamlin’s mother Nina, who was present in the stands and had to rush to be on the side of her son who was struggling to breathe at the time and needed to be shocked to be brought back to life.

Smith also pointed out that people won’t be able to feel what Hamlin’s mother and the players were feeling on the field as many broke down including Bills’ Stefon Diggs who had tears in his eyes.

Hamlin’s tragic injury reminded people that it’s not easy being an NFL athlete as there is a constant risk of suffering a fatal injury. However, the athletes still put their lives down the line so that the people watching can have a great time at home.

“Sometimes, your greatness, your iron-man tendencies, the stress, the friction and everything else that you put yourself through,” Smith added. “We can never imagine putting ourselves through it”

Smith applauded all the professional athletes for their discipline and their work ethic that helps them become these marvels of nature who can take on anything and stand strong in the face of adversity.

The ESPN analyst also pointed out the two distinctive mortalities and how athletes have the danger of facing them in each game. Damar Hamlin’s injury was a case of fast mortality, whereas slow mortality includes CTE and other injuries that show their effects later on in life.

NFL is one of the most physical sports leagues in the world and people should be more sensitive about players getting injured as everyone lives and breathes the same way.
