The New York Jets were talked about as a Super Bowl contender in the offseason after acquiring one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game in Aaron Rodgers. Then week 1 happened. Rodgers went down with an Achilles tear, ending his season after just four snaps. Backup QB Zach Wilson replaced him and won the game against the Buffalo Bills in week 1. However, since then, it has been a struggle for Wilson and the Jets as they have lost both their next games.

Wilson has faced a lot of criticism for his inconsistent quarterback play. Through three weeks, he has completed only 52.4 percent of his throws for 467 yards and has twice as many interceptions as touchdowns. ESPN analyst and face of the show First Take, Stephen A. Smith blamed head coach Robert Saleh for sticking with Wilson as the team’s QB.

“Of course, him [Robert Saleh] and Zach Wilson deserve the heat. There’s no doubt about it.” Smith said on the latest edition of the First Take show. “The person at the quarterback position is somebody that the team themselves with their ‘Mike Effing White’ t-shirts going into the Minnesota game last year. The team has told you, we don’t want Zach Wilson. For Robert Saleh to go out there and to literally praise Zach Wilson and talk about this belief in him is utterly ridiculous. He deserves that heat.”

The Jets are 1-2 and will play the reigning champions the Kansas City Chiefs in their next game at home. It will be a tough game and there will be heavy underdogs going into the MetLife Stadium next Sunday. Saleh and the Jets will hope to pull off an upset victory against the Chiefs on Sunday.

Robert Saleh has confidence in Zach Wilson

The New York Jets are in a terrible place right now. They lost their starting QB after signing him this offseason to an Achilles injury. Since then the team has been quarterbacked by former first-round pick Zach Wilson. He has struggled through three weeks and the pressure is mounting on him to perform.

Head coach of the Jets, Robert Saleh, however, has confidence in Wilson as he provides the ‘best chance to win.’ “We see on a day in and day out basis is a young man who is much improved from a year ago,” Saleh said. “He’s much more confident, he’s much more accurate, he’s got much more command of the huddle, he looks better in the pocket. Could have been better yesterday, but he’s improved, and he’s getting better.”

He further said, “He’s here, he gives us our best chance to win, and as coaches, we’re going to do everything we can to help him.” Saleh also confirmed that Wilson will start against the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday. The team signed veteran QB Trevor Siemian earlier this week to their practice squad.

The Jets will host the defending champions the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday. It will be a massive test for Wilson and the Jets as they will enter the game as underdogs. It might be the last opportunity for Wilson to save his job as the team’s starter.
