“Rubbed me the wrong way”: Travis Kelce HATED Taylor Heinicke’s desperate attempt to get a ‘roughing the passer’ call

Here's why Travis Kelce turned his TV off when Taylor Heinicke forced a 'roughing the passer' call.
Philly, Philly, O’ Philly. The Philadelphia Eagles were expected to end this season with a flawless record. Led by Jalen Hurts, the team has been performing at the highest level. They have not just outdone the expectations, but appear to be a team that has embarked upon a mission to prove a lot of people wrong.
However, as Philly attempted to pursue their goal of ending the regular season without any losses, there was one team in between that stood up and ruined their plans. Yes, it is the Washington Commanders. The DC-based team was the last team that anyone had expected to beat the Eagles. The Commanders have a terrible name, but they also have relied upon Carson Wentz to be their QB1 for most of the season.
However, in this game, the torch was passed to Taylor Heinicke, the backup QB. He delivered when his team needed him. However, while most football fans were rejoicing in the victory of the Commanders over the Eagles, there was one person who did not like what he saw.
Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, was glued to his TV as he saw the matchup between Washington and Philly. However, the star tight-end confessed that he did not watch the full game. Why do you ask? Because of Taylor Heinicke.
Taylor Heinicke was ecstatic following the Commanders’ win over the Eagles:

Heinicke started the game and with Washington up 26-21, he lined up to take the snap on the third-and-7 play at the 50-yarder. At this point, Philly was left with one timeout. They were attempting to put a stop to the Washington offense in order to get possession of the ball with under 2 minutes remaining on the clock.
However, the Eagles’ game plan failed miserably. Taylor Heinicke, the QB for Washington, took the snap. His first instinct was to throw the ball, and he actively looked for a wideout to pass the ball to. However, Philly was in full lockdown mode and no wideout was open.
As a result, Taylor was forced to take a knee on the play rather than throw the ball and risk an interception. While two of the Eagles’ defenders closed in upon Heinicke, who had already taken up a knee, Brandon Graham, the DE for the Eagles, ended up making contact with the quarterback. This play, he will regret forever as it resulted in an automatic penalty.
The quarterback knew what this meant, a free penalty, and as a result, he was enthusiastic about it. The referees called Graham out for roughing the passer and this ended up giving Washington the first down and the victory. Heinicke was over the moon and celebrated this victory.
While most fans may have enjoyed this, Travis Kelce, the TE for the Chiefs, was not impressed. He was rather pissed off after this play. He addressed it in his podcast with brother Jason Kelce, titled “New Heights.” “I’ve never seen a QB get so excited because of a roughing the passer. That one I don’t know why it rubbed me the wrong way, man. I was just like ‘I’m out of here.’ I just turned the TV off when he got excited like that. I was like, ‘that is what we’re getting excited for, man.”
We can relate to Travis. The Eagles squad this year is a special one and when you have been able to win 8 games in a row, you kind of begin to root for the team to win every game of the regular season. The last thing you would expect from them is to lose to Washington. In Kelce’s defense, his brother Jason is also a part of this Eagles roster, so that means all the more reason to root for them.
If we were to look at it from Heinicke’s perspective, you are part of a team that just beat a top-tier team that is in all likelihood expected to make the Super Bowl. The quarterback has been known to give his everything in every game that he plays in the NFL. In all practicality, flag or not, the Commanders would have taken this game.
Sure, we could speculate whether Jalen Hurts would be able to score a touchdown by driving the length of the field and scoring a touchdown, but there is no guarantee when it comes to that. While Travis Kelce was far from impressed with Heinicke’s behavior and approach, his brother Jason seemed to respect it.
What are your thoughts on Taylor Heinicke’s final play? Did the quarterback offend anyone by celebrating a penalty or did he have the right to do so?
