The Houston Texans have been the surprise team of the season. They came into the season with a rookie quarterback, a rookie head coach and a very young roster. However, their QB C.J. Stroud has led them to a 7-6 record and is having a historic season. Although the Texans are having a great campaign, it might come crashing down at the worst possible time as Stroud left their recent game against the New York Jets with a concussion.
During the fourth quarter of the game, Jets’ defensive lineman Quinnen Williams delivered a hit on Stroud that left him with a concussion. He left the game and did not return as the Texans were blown away by the Jets, 30-6. There is concern surrounding Stroud as he did not practice on Wednesday, but, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans, is feeling a “little bit better.”
Ryans said, via a video from the Texans:
C.J., he’s getting a little bit better. We’ll see how the week continues to go, but he’s still in the concussion protocol.DeMeco Ryans via a video from the Texans
Ryans also talked about his quarterback room as he might have to replace Stroud in their upcoming game.
We feel that we have a really strong quarterback room since training camp. In this league, you never know what will happen. But it’s comforting to have three guys who can go out there and play and not miss a beat.
Although the Texans lost their last game against the Jets, they are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Their chances to make the postseason depend on the recovery of Stroud. So far this season, the rookie QB has amassed 3,631 yards, 20 touchdowns and 5 interceptions with a rating of 98.7.
Quinnen Williams says he’s ‘not a dirty player’ after a hit on C.J. Stroud
The Houston Texans’ recent game against the New York Jets led to their sensational rookie QB C.J. Stoud’s early exit from the game. Stroud was on the receiving end of a massive hit from Jets’ DL Quinnen Williams that left the rookie QB concussed. He left the game and did not return to finish the game. Williams spoke about the hit and claimed that he is “not a dirty player.”
Williams tweeted after the game:
I pray CJ is ok, everyone know I’m not a dirty player or trying to hurt a great, Elite QB like him or any player in the league. I play hard and I play fair. Again I pray CJ is ok and wish him nothing but the best.C.J. Stroud on X
The Jets eventually won the game 30-6. Stroud’s status for the Texans’ next game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday is unclear. The Texans are 7-6 this season and will hope to have their rookie QB back as soon as possible to make a playoff push.
