The story of Houston Texans‘ rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has been quite remarkable in his debut year in the league. He has broken rookie records by Andrew Luck for the most passing yards in a single game by a rookie with 470 yards, and he also became the only rookie in the MVP conversation this season.

It turns out Stroud’s backstory is equally special, as before gaining fame with his college football team, the Ohio State Buckeyes, he began his football career with the Snoop Youth Football League in California. And with his brilliant skills, he made quite an impression on rapper Snoop Dogg, whom he addressed as “uncle.”

In a recent interview with Inside the NFL, Dogg was asked about Stroud’s performance this season using a video where he can be seen wearing a Steelers jersey, playing for the rapper. Not to anyone’s surprise, Dogg praised the quarterback’s work ethic from a very young age and called him a “leader.”

C.J. has always been a stand-up kind of kid. He’s always been a leader. He’s always been underrated – I’ll say that. I love the fact that he’s always been the underdog that turned into the Wonderdog. I'm saying that because he puts in that work ethic, he’s a strong believer in God, he’s got great parents and he’s just a great listener.
Dogg said

Dogg emphasized that since a young age, Stroud has been a good listener that’s why the team always gets the best of him.

Any time you’ve got a kid that wants to listen and wants to learn, you can definitely get the best out of them. So, C.J. is one of the kids who’ve come out of the league that we’re so proud of.

C.J. Stroud remains uncleared from NFL conclusion protocol for week 15

In the week 14 game against the New York Jets, the Texans’ quarterback unfortunately suffered a serious injury after being tackled by opponent Quinnen Williams, resulting in hitting the MetLife Stadium turf by the back of his head. The rookie was clearly in pain when the Texans’ training staff rushed towards him to get him off the field.

The quarterback couldn’t return to the game and was replaced by David Mills as the Texans ended up losing to the Jets by a bizarre 30-6. Stroud has undergone the NFL concussion protocols, which haven’t cleared him to appear in the upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 15.

If Stroud can’t get clear, backup QB Mills will again take over his place. The Texans are currently standing at 7-6, ranked third in the AFC South. If the team aims for a playoff berth, they need to make a strong finish.
