Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker TJ Watt is coming off an exceptional season, in which he won the best defensive player in the league award. He is one of the most reputed defensive players in the league heading into the 2022 NFL season, but the 27-year-old still does not consider himself the best, when it comes to comparisons inside his own family.
TJ Watt’s elder brother JJ Watt is the defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals, and although they are not direct rivals in the division, there are bound to be comparisons being made by the outer world. JJ Watt spent the majority of his career with the Houston Texans, only making the move to Arizona in 2021.
TJ Watt claimed his brother JJ Watt is the better of the duo
In a recent appearance made by TJ Watt on The Pivot show, he was asked the inevitable question as to who is the better amongst the two brothers. TJ Watt responded with immense humility and named his brother as the better of the two, simply because of what he had done with the Houston Texans during his prime.
“I want people to understand how great my brother truly was in his prime,” T.J. said. “You go back and you look, you watch the film, the guy was frickin’ unstoppable. Absolutely unstoppable. He’ll never say it, but people need to go back and look at that. The guy was doing incredible things for four or five years, and I think he can still play at a high level. I think I’m too early in my career to compare myself to him.”
And very few would disagree with that fact if they check out JJ Watt’s resume. The Cardinals DE has three defensive players of the year awards which he won in 2012,2014 and 2015. On the contrary, TJ Watt is only getting started and one hopes that he too would reach the heights that his brother reached during his peak.
