Tom Brady is arguably the greatest football player of all time. Some people even consider the New England Patriots icon to be the greatest athlete in the history of United States. The accomplished QB recently partook in a tribute video with NBC Sports to Secretariat in time for the 50th anniversary of the legendary horse’s remarkable Kentucky Derby victory.
However, the beautiful video where the 15-time Pro Bowl QB took a little turn as he compared his career with the legacy of Secretariat. The tribute revolved around the theme of fate with Tom Brady’s narration.
“I wanna tell you another story about fate, takes place about 30 years later,” Brady said. “A kid you might recognize just sitting in the bench in New England, backing up one of the best quarterbacks in the league [Drew Bledsoe]. But then that QB gets hurt and the kid gets his shot to go in.”
“Now maybe Secretariat would have become Secretariat even if he had a different owner, a different trainer, a different jockey. And maybe I would have found my way to a lineup, even if my good buddy Drew Bledsoe didn’t get hurt that day in the field,” said Brady before claiming that his name will always be mentioned as the best to ever do it.
“But I do know the way it worked out for both of us. It felt a lot like fate. There are a lot of G.O.A.Ts out there in history. I’ll always have my name mentioned with the best to ever do it. But I think I speak for all of us when we say we all kind of look at him a little differently.”

Even though the tribute video for the Triple Crown-winning horse Secretariat done by NBC Sports was sweet, some fans on social media did not like how Tom Brady overshadowed the legendary thoroughbred’s achievements with his legacy. Many people on social whacked the Patriots legend and called the New England Patriots legend ‘an arrogant jerk.’ Check out some of the reactions below.
Secretariat won the Triple Crown back in 1973 for the first time since its citation while setting record times in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.
Tom Brady also carries an unprecedented legacy in his sport, as he is the only football player in the world to have won seven Super Bowl Championship rings. So it is not far-fetched to compare the two great sporting legacies but the fans will always complain about something.
Nevertheless, Brady recently retired from playing football after a successful 23-year-long career. He will start his sportscasting career with Fox Network in the fall of 2024.
