Tom Brady is undoubtedly the greatest NFL player of all time. The legendary QB retired at the end of the last season and since then has been enjoying his retirement.

However, his legacy in the NFL is still intact, and it is somewhat unreachable for other players. Brady was recently commissioned by NBC to narrate the opening of the 2023 Kentucky Derby.

The whole video had it’s focus on one of the horses named Secretariat. Secretariat won the triple crown and is undoubtedly the greatest runner in Kentucky Derby history. The video commissioned by NBC was interesting and showed the origins of The Secretariat and how he came to be the best runner in history.

However, they added a minor twist to the story. Instead of showing the complete story of the horse, they also told the story of Brady from his New England Patriots‘ days and how fate intervened for both of them to make them who they were.

For Secretariat, fate helped him find a different owner. On the other hand, fate worked differently for Brady when Drew Bledsoe got injured during his second year and the history of the NFL was about to change.

“I want to tell you a story about destiny,” Tom Brady began his narration. “A woman named Penny, interestingly enough, is one of the owners. And she loses the coin toss. And a year later, in 1970, only one foal is born. And that’s how she ends up with a young horse named Secretariat.”

Drew Bledsoe’s injury will certainly go down as a defining moment in all of NFL history. Because, if he were not to get injured, then there were chances that Tom Brady, the 199th draft pick, would have never received his chance.

“Now I want to tell you another story about fate. It takes place about 30 years later,” Brady said. “A guy you might recognize is sitting on the bench in New England, backing up one of the best quarterbacks in the league. But then that QB gets hurt, and the kid gets his chance to come in.”

Fortunately, Brady got his chance, and he doubled down on it. After that, Bledsoe didn’t get a single start and the legendary QB made the position his own.

However, the 45-year-old also believes that fate would have made it happen even if Bledsoe wouldn’t be injured or Secretariat had a different owner. What’s meant to happen will always happen. A man should just focus on doing his best. Maybe that’s what Tom Brady meant to say throughout the narration.

The video ends as a call out to all the fans in celebrating the famed horse’s 50th-anniversary Derby win with the words, “There was nobody faster, nobody greater.” A fitting words for the impeccable creature.
