2023 was supposed to be the year of the GOAT, but it will not be for Tom Brady as he will not be on the field playing in this year’s Super Bowl. TB12 will have to watch the grand event from the comfort of his own home as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers failed to move past the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs. Recently, the GOAT’s mic’d up footage emerged from their game against the San Francisco 49ers in week 14 of the regular season. The team that Brady has yearned to play for and idolized his entire life defeated him 35-7.
Brock Purdy defeated Tom Brady and sent him home. Throughout the game, there were a lot of instances where fans had hopes that Brady will end up turning back the clock and give us a taste of his vintage self by staging yet another stellar comeback that fans will remember and look back upon for ages to come. However, that never happened.
Was it because 45-year-old Tom Brady just does not have it in him anymore? Is he done? Out of gas and no longer able to play like his old self? All these may be true to an extent, but one of the biggest issues appeared to be with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad. While Brady was hyped and was his usual energetic crackhead self on the field, hyping all of his teammates up, the remainder of the team did not seem to be on his level in terms of matching energies.

Tom Brady could not turn back the clock and orchestrate a comeback in time against the 49ers:
From a mere observational standpoint, a look at the Buccaneers mic’d up gives the impression that Tom Brady was the only one locked in throughout the game. There are multiple instances where Brady is hyping his team up, encouraging them, and uplifting them, and despite all of this, his teammates’ responses are rather bleak.
While being hyped and energetic in times like these does not always mean that a team is better and locked in, it does speak to their mindset. The Bucs have often been a noisy lot as they love to show their presence on the field by being vocal. Was Tampa just mentally checked out of the game? Maybe, but the final scores do support that assumption. Take a look at Tom Brady’s mic’d up and how fans reacted to it on Twitter:
Painful to watch.
This is disheartening.
Was this Tom Brady’s last time facing the San Francisco 49ers ever? That is a distinct possibility, however, Tom is an unpredictable athlete and it will not be surprising if he does decide to come back and play next season, who knows, he could join the 49ers to fulfil his dream of playing in the bay area.
