The San Francisco 49ers will begin a new chapter in the team’s history as they will attempt to make Trey Lance the team’s quarterback for the foreseeable future. However, the team appears to be hesitant in transitioning to this new chapter as they are yet to formally announce that he will get the starter’s role over their existing QB Jimmy Garoppolo.
Jimmy G is currently rehabbing his shoulder, he is expected to be traded or released once he is completely fit but there is also another issue at hand, the 49ers may decide to keep him this season and throw him in the starters role if Lance does not live up to his potential. The last thing any team wants to do is throw their season away.

ESPN First Take analyst Domonique Foxworth is of the opinion that Jimmy Garoppolo should be traded and Trey Lance should start the season for the team. “We know what Jimmy G is, they know what Jimmy G is, which is why they drafted Trey Lance because there is a ceiling on Jimmy Garoppolo’s abilities. He was not the catalyst of this offense, he was more the problem than the solution, he missed wide-open passes that would have put the game away,” the analyst makes his case.
“The game against the Packers, Jimmy G was not slinging the ball over the field, he was turning the ball in the red zone. He is not a bad quarterback but they (49ers) didn’t go get Trey Lance because they thought that they had a franchise QB. We have seen him come up small many times in these big moments. He ain’t that dude. Trey Lance has a much higher ceiling than Jimmy G.” He does not hold back on Jimmy G.
Trey Lance will definitely not come out of the gate winning games, during the initial part of the season, the team may decline but like how every doctor says that you will feel worse before you feel better, Lance seems to be the best option for the team. He has a lot of potential being a quarterback who can pass and run with the ball.
