The 2022 season turned out to be detrimental to Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered two confirmed and one suspected concussion, leading him to miss six games, including the Super Wild Card weekend.
His first concussion came in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills, which caused a whole new controversy, and the NFL had to change its protocols regarding concussions. Miami Dolphins’ medical personnel cleared Tua to play in the game after suffering a concussion, which caused the NFL Players Association to launch an investigation into the team.
His second concussion came the following week against the Cincinnati Bengals when Bengals defensive lineman Josh Tupou threw Tua to the ground. The Dolphins quarterback lay on the ground for an extended period and had to be taken away on a stretcher.

Tua Tagovailoa cleared to come back for the 2023 season
After missing almost six games, Tua Tagovailoa announced on his Twitter handle that the former 5th overall pick is ready to get back in the huddle next year. “When one chapter ends, another begins. Proud of this last one, excited for the next one!” Tua tweeted. The 24-year-old will enter the last year of his rookie contract in 2023 and, given his failure to deliver a playoff season, has led fans to believe that he might be booted off Miami next year.
However, Dolphins GM Chris Grier said that Tua is no longer injury prone and that the doctors have cleared him for the next season. “Tua Tagovailoa is our starting quarterback. Talking to doctors, we fully expect him back next year 100%,” Grier said. Despite missing six games, Tua led the NFL with a 54% completion percentage and a 122.1 passer rating on passes of 20+ air yards this season.
Still, analysts and fans believe that Miami might still pursue Tom Brady for the starting quarterback position. The Dolphins tried to poach Brady back when he was a Patriot and during his recent stint as a Buccaneer. And now that he is a free agent, there is no one stopping them from pursuing him. Tua’s message also hints at a possible exit from Miami and here’s how social media reacted to the news.
Tua Tagovailoa led the league in passer rating, yards per completion, and yards per attempt. Pretty impressive seeing he missed six games. It’ll be interesting to see if he stays in Miami or moves elsewhere. Also, look out for the Dolphins making a move on Tom Brady!
