Brett Favre, the Hall of Fame Quarterback, has been in the news recently for his alleged involvement in the Mississippi State Welfare Fraud, a multi-million dollar scandal in which money meant for the poorest in the state of Mississippi was misappropriated. Favre recently issued a statement on his alleged role and the statement was not very well received by the public.

Favre has been disclosed to have tried to convince those in power to use the welfare money for the building of a volleyball facility at the University of Southern Mississippi his alma mater and the place where his daughter was on a volleyball scholarship. Also, some money was allegedly for Favre’s own personal gain.

The welfare fraud is currently under trial and although Favre is not a defendant, many revelations about his involvement have been made in the court proceedings and more is revealed each day. Each allegation has been a big hit on Favre’s reputation and as a result his radio show was canceled recently. Now finally he has decided to speak on the matter following a prolonged silence.

He went on to deny having any knowledge of the inappropriate source of the money he raised for his alma “No one ever told me, and I did not know, that funds designated for welfare recipients were going to the University or me. I tried to help my alma mater USM, a public Mississippi state university, raise funds for a wellness center. My goal was and always will be to improve the athletic facilities at my university.”

He also claimed that various state agencies and entities approved the donation through Nancy New’s charity and that he was told that the legal work for the same was done by State Attorneys and State employees.

His statement was not as well received as Favre would have expected-
