The Dallas Cowboys had to take strict action after having yet another unsuccessful Super Bowl run. Their divisional playoff loss to the 49ers marked the 28th straight year the Cowboys haven’t started in the NFC Championship game.
To make sure the 2023 season breaks their humiliating streak, the Cowboys fired offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Yes! While some may argue that the main problem in Dallas is Dak Prescott, owner Jerry Jones felt otherwise and went on to change the OC to run the ball more and relieve the pressure off of Prescott who threw career-high 15 interceptions last year.
The Cowboys’ defense is one of the best in the league and more often than not has been the reason why the team was still alive in the game. The offense needed a real boost and key players to elevate their gameplay. To do that, they parted ways with running back Ezekiel Elliott, which seems like the best decision after his abysmal performance in the 2022 season.
Brandin Cooks to play for his fifth team in his decade-long career
The Cowboys seriously lacked firepower in their receiving core after they traded away wide receiver Amari Cooper, a move that was criticized by the entire league. To make up for Cooper’s absence, Dallas brought in James Washington and Jalen Tolbert, which honestly speaking didn’t help their cause much. Now, the Dallas-based franchise has acquired Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans.
The deal was finalized on March 19, 2023, when the Cowboys gave their fifth-round pick in 2023 and a sixth-round pick in 2024 in exchange for Brandin Cooks. The 29-year-old has been a great receiver but his last season in Houston was as average as they come where he scored three touchdowns and 699 yards in 57 receptions. Cooks has the speed that will pair nicely with CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup and give Dallas the much-needed boost on offense.
However, fans on Twitter weren’t that impressed with this trade given that he has been a kind of journeyman in his short nine-year career where he has played for four different teams. Here’s how fans reacted on Twitter.
Brandin Cooks started his career in New Orleans and was then traded to the Patriots after three years. After just one year in New England, where he scored 1,082 yards and seven touchdowns, he was traded to the Rams where he spent just two years and finally landed in Houston. And now, after three seasons with the Texans, Cooks will play for the Cowboys.
Cooks has six 1000 yards seasons in his nine-year career, which speaks volumes about the production he has. Let’s see if he can be the missing link for Dallas to help them reach the NFC championship and maybe the Super Bowl.
