“Can’t stop them,” Tyler Boyd compares Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow’s rivalry to one of the greatest rivalries in NFL history
Is the rivalry between Mahomes and Burrow the next big thing in the NFL? Tyler Boyd thnks so.
We have seen some iconic rivalries in the history of football, be it Dan Marino and John Elway, Brett Favre and Steve Young, as great as they all were, the younger generation in particular was not able to witness their greatness as it came before their time.
However, the most recent rivalry fans loved while it lasted has to be between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. The legendary quarterbacks have played one another a total of 17 times, with Brady having the upper hand with a total of 11 wins head-to-head.
Now that Peyton is retired and Brady is in his last season (hopefully) we are witnessing the next generation take over. With talents such as Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow in the league, new rivalries have come into existence and the talent pool is so immense that one cannot help but be left awestruck by these quarterbacks.
Which of these quarterback rivalries is similar to that of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning? If you ask Tyler Boyd, the wideout from Cincinnati Bengals, he’d tell you that Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes are the second comings of the Brady and Peyton Manning rivalry.
Tyler Boyd believes Mahomes and Burrow are in a race to reach 10,000 career yards:
Take a look at what Tyler Boyd had to say. “Going back to that quarterback fight, I look at it like Manning and Brady. You can’t stop them. It comes down to whoever excels and takes advantage of their opportunities in drives and scores points. These are the types of games that we have to take over.”
Boyd doesn’t want to compare Mahomes and Burrow, they both are unique in their own way similar to Brady and Manning. “It’s Burrow and Mahomes, I wouldn’t compare them. Those are the two guys with records for fastest two quarterbacks to reach 10,000 yards. It’s hard to stop Burrow and it’s hard to stop Mahomes. At the end of the day, Burrow is two up. Whichever one you want to pick, whoever got the most wins, there you go.”
Irrespective of if Burrow and Mahomes live up to the same level that Brady and Manning lived up to. It will be interesting to see their matchup and how it settles down in history.
