A year and seven months ago, when Tyreek Hill decided to leave the Kansas City Chiefs, fans criticized him as downright dumb and ridiculous. Hill is an elite talent, but considering his numbers took off when Patrick Mahomes became the starting QB for the Chiefs, the notion was that Hill could not achieve the same level of success without Mahomes. After all, he won the Super Bowl with him.

Fast forward to 2023, Tyreek Hill has 1,222 receiving yards to his credit through 10 games. To provide perspective, this figure exceeds the wideout’s total season-receiving records in each of his first five seasons in the NFL. He is well on track to outperform his record in 2022 of 1,710 yards and is expected to have 2,000 yards receiving at the end of the season.

The current record for most receiving yards in a season is held by Calvin ‘Megatron’ Johnson, who went off in 2012 when he had 122 receptions for 1,964 yards. Cooper Kupp came close to beating this record back in 2021 when he managed to tally 1,947 yards in the regular season. The record has stood the test of time, but it could legitimately be broken this season as Hill is averaging 15.5 yards per carry.

Hill is on pace to finish the season with 2,077 yards in 17 games. The Miami Dolphins schedule in the upcoming weeks will see them have two games against the Jets, Commanders, Titans, Cowboys, and Ravens. Achieving this feat would be monumental for Hill, as it would cement his legacy as one of the best wide receivers to play in the NFL. More importantly, this could be his best shot at accomplishing such a remarkable feat. Hill has kept it no secret that he has been contemplating retiring from football if he is not playing for Miami. His current contract runs through 2026. He intends to retire after that season.

It makes sense because Hill’s current contract is worth $120 million, which is abundant enough to set him up for life from a financial perspective. He would be 31 when his contract expires. He has expressed his desire to get into the business aspect of things and live his life to the fullest potential.

The wideout said on his It Needed To Be Said podcast that he “will break 2,000 yards next year,” before the commencement of this season. He has had this on his mind for a long time. “Two thousand yards was on my bucket list to get before I leave this league- 2,000 yards and another Super Bowl.”

He has a chance to accomplish both those feats in one season. However, Miami has been unable to beat good teams this season, but they have demolished bad teams with relative ease.
