The Las Vegas Raiders are currently preparing to take on their AFC West division rivals Los Angeles Chargers, led by star quarterback Justin Herbert, in their week 4 game on Sunday. It is a crucial game for the Raiders, who are on a two-game losing streak, which led them to fall to 1-2. Ahead of this crucial game, the Raiders suffered a massive blow as they ruled out their franchise, QB Jimmy Garoppolo for Sunday’s game. And now the question arises, who will be the starting QB of the Raiders in the absence of Jimmy G? And no, it is not Tom Brady, at least not for now.
On Saturday, the Raiders announced that they would be playing without Jimmy G in their week 4 matchup, as he was ruled out with a concussion. Now, the starting quarterback of the Raiders for Sunday remains a mystery. They have to choose between the 16-year veteran Brian Hoyer and the rookie signal-caller Aidan O’Connell against the Chargers. At the moment, the Raiders haven’t announced their decision yet.
When asked about the starting QB earlier this week, the Raiders’ head coach Josh McDaniels remained non-committed. Initially, McDaniels gave a subtle hint that he might lean towards the 16-year veteran.
“I think everybody is going to get ready to go, and I think sometimes experience is a good thing,” McDaniels said according to AP. However, McDaniels still went on to say that what matters is how a QB performs and not how many games they have played in the past.
Hoyer and McDaniels go way back since they both worked together in New England. Hoyer was the backup QB for Tom Brady when McDaniels was working as the offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots. Meanwhile, Aidan O’Connell is a 2023 fourth-round pick and hasn’t played a snap in the NFL regular season so far. McDaniels has to make a decision to start either Brian Hoyer or O’Connell.

Losing Jimmy Garoppolo is a major blow for the Raiders
The Raiders, who are on a 2 game-losing streak, suffered a huge blow after they ruled out Jimmy Garoppolo for their week 4 game against the Chargers due to concussion.
Garoppolo played the entirety of the Raiders’ week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But his status for the next game came into question when he missed the post-game presser for medical evaluation. Jimmy G even participated in a couple of limited practice sessions.
But on Saturday, the team ruled out Jimmy G and now they will be facing Justin Herbert and the Chargers on Sunday without him as their leader. In his absence, either Hoyer or O ‘Connel will lead the Las Vegas-based football team in week 4 of the ongoing NFL season.
