Cam Newton hasn’t played in the league for almost two years. But he has a hefty price for his return to the NFL if the New York Jets are looking for a quarterback. There have been so many questions about the quarterback position for the Jets ever since Aaron Rodgers went down with a leg injury in week 1 of the ongoing season. Newton told his price if the Jets were interested in approaching him. Amidst this situation, the Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay ridicules Newton’s demands.

“That mane would be on the first flight out to NY,” wrote Willie Gay in an Instagram post about Cam Newton’s comments. The Chiefs linebacker seems to be implying that Newton would immediately jump on the chance to play for the Jets without worrying about the money.

Nonetheless, Newton, who hasn’t played a snap in the league since 2021 made his stance on a return to the NFL clear during a recent episode of “RG3 and The Ones” podcast with former NFL QB Robert Griffin III. Newton said that he would want a high deal for him to even consider a return to the NFL.

“You not about to sit here and penny pinch me, bro,” Newton said. “I’m about to sit up here and sign no $5.5 (million) deal, bro. “Those days are over with. I’d be wasting my time.”

Furthermore, the former number one overall pick Newton also went on to say that he would analyze the situation a lot before signing a deal and wouldn’t walk into a dysfunctional situation.

“In any situation, I’m gonna sit up there and I’m gonna analyze it as much as possible,” he said. “I don’t want to walk into a dysfunctional situation. Have you guys made Zach Wilson aware? Also, Aaron Rodgers is trying to come back this year, let’s also talk about that. So when he comes back is it just gonna be something that you just say, ‘Ay watch out.’ So it’s a lot of things that I don’t just make impulse decisions.”

Cam Newton hasn’t played in the league since 2021

The former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has had a remarkable career in the league that spanned more than a decade. But the former MVP played his last game in the NFL back in the 2021 season and hasn’t been able to sign with a team since then.

Newton has made multiple attempts to make a comeback in the league. He once even claimed that he is willing to back up certain quarterbacks in the league but none of his attempts has been a success.

And now, he has made another shot in the dark by saying that he is still in shape to play football. Nonetheless, the current Jets QB Zach Wilson had an excellent game against the Chiefs last weekend and it seems like the Jets wouldn’t be desperate enough to add Newton to their roster.
