The Denver Broncos showed their commitment to bringing home a championship. After going ‘all in’ in a trade to acquire star quarterback Russell Wilson, the organization hopes to once again be a Super Bowl contender.

This massive trade caught everyone who follows the NFL by surprise but they were happy nonetheless. However, there was one player in particular who made a rather bold statement about his former teammate’s deal.

People responsible for bringing Russell Wilson to Denver might lose their job if the Broncos don’t win Super Bowl LVII

Richard Sherman was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL draft and played for them until 2017. Sherman on his podcast The Richard Sherman Podcast talked about how the Broncos have placed all their eggs in one basket and that it was a risky move.

“If he doesn’t win in Denver, people will lose their jobs,” Sherman said. After acquiring the perennial Pro Bowler, the Broncos are now instant Super Bowl contenders. The Los Angeles Rams made the same move as Broncos last year after they mortgaged their future for Matthew Stafford. While it all played out like a dream for the Rams, the same can’t be said for the Broncos.

The Rams already had the best defense in the NFL that included Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey. Even their offense had Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp and their offensive weapons. All they needed was a quarterback. Denver Broncos might have some weapons on both ends but they aren’t as stacked as the Rams.

Maybe Sherman is right with his assessment of people losing their jobs if the Broncos fail to lift the Lombardi Trophy next year at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona. Additionally, there will be a lot of pressure on Russell Wilson to win the Super Bowl in his debut season with the Broncos. While Tom Brady made it look like a piece of cake in his first year with the Buccaneers, it’s definitely not that easy.

Last year in Seattle was one of Wilson’s worst seasons to date. After battling a finger injury, Wilson threw 25 touchdown passes and six interceptions, tallying 3,113 yards across 14 games. The Seahawks were 6-8 in games he started, missing out on the playoffs for the second time in a decade.

Let’s hope Wilson has the intended effect that the Broncos have hoped for otherwise, heads will start to roll in Denver’s front office!
