Bobby Wagner had an illustrious 10-year tenure with the Seattle Seahawks before the team elected to move towards youth this offseason resulting in a messy breakup between Seattle and its best-ever linebacker.

The Seahawks trading Russell Wilson away was really the sign that they were trying to go in a new direction. Naturally, some felt that Bobby Wagner would be the next to go. However, rather than getting anything for him, they elected to release him. That alone is pretty upsetting but the way it all went down is even worse. According to Wagner, the Seahawks didn’t even contact him personally to let him know about his plans or thank him for his time in Seattle.

When you have someone who’s been a 6-time first-team All-Pro and has been the best linebacker in the league and helped you win your first Super Bowl, that’s not how you treat them. Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time Seattle has done something of the sort as Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas left the team on bad terms as well.

Given that, not many were surprised to hear that Wagner was looking to sign in the NFC West and take it to the Seahawks twice a year. Now, he’s signed a massive 5 year $50 million deal with the Los Angeles Rams, one of Seattle’s fiercest rivals. Russell Wilson recently voiced his congratulations for his former teammate.

Russell Wilson played just as big a part as Bobby Wagner did in bringing the Seahawks a Super Bowl XLVIII win back in the 2013 season. The two of them were the only players left from that Super Bowl team in 2021 and naturally, all that time together got them pretty close. Russ shared a message on Twitter congratulating Wagner, saying “Congrats! You deserve it all legend! As we always say, ‘don’t get bored with consistency.’ Love you forever bro!”

Pete Carroll and John Schneider tend to know what they’re doing in Seattle so it’s safe to say they have a plan to win even after letting go of both Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner but still, this one will hurt Seahawks fans.

As for Wagner, he gets to join the reigning Super Bowl champs and gets a huge contract out of it too. The Rams lost some big pieces this offseason so signing Wagner is a big deal for them. Whether or not signing a 32-year-old linebacker to a 5-year deal will prove to be hurtful is yet to be seen.

But, for 2022, the Rams will certainly remain a very dangerous contender in the NFC and could be the first team to repeat since the 2004 New England Patriots.
