“That’s why you draft a kicker”- Cincinnati Bengals fans go crazy as they are headed to the AFC championship for the first time in 30 years
Evan McPherson
The Cincinnati Bengals will play for a berth in the Super Bowl. Even saying that sounds unbelievable considering where this team was just 2 short years ago but here we are. The Bengals advance past the divisional stage defeating the Tennesee Titans in a game filled with drama.
Derrick Henry’s return did not go to plan for himself or the Titans as the #1 seed in the AFC is one and done in the 2021 NFL playoffs. While the controversial interception that got the Titans back in the game was set to grab headlines, his 3rd and a final interception with 20 seconds left, sealed the game. The Bengals got the ball around midfield was all Joe Burrow needed to set up rookie kicker Evan McPherson to knock off Tennessee.
‘Money Mac’ nails a 52 yard field goal for the Cincinnati Bengals win
With 4 seconds left in the game, the Bengals sent out their rookie kicker to hit the most important field goal of his life. And from 52 yards out, he nailed it. Not an ounce of nervousness in him at all reminiscent of when a rookie Justin Tucker hit a game-winning field goal in a playoff game.
Having already broken a long-standing record last week, the Bengals broke an even more important one this week. They’ll now wait to see who they’ll face in the AFC championship game and regardless of the opponent, it’s going to be a very confident Bengals team going into next week.
