“Tough road ahead” – Jay Cutler says Justin Fields needs to tackle several obstacles in order to become ‘the best ever QB’ to come out of Chicago
Justin Fields and Jay Cutler
The Chicago Bears had yet another disappointing end to a season. Despite the Bears drafting a phenomenal athlete at the quarterback position in the 2021 draft, Justin Fields failed to be a savior for the franchise. Given the 2021 season was his rookie year, Fields is now expected to make a grand comeback and start making his mark in the NFL.
Former Chicago Bears QB, Jay Cutler is back in the town he called home for 8 years. The reason for his visit was the American Cornhole League and Cutler starred as a participant. Upon his return, Cutler has been quite busy making appearances on various podcasts but stopped to talk about the current Bears’ starter.
Jay Cutler believes Justin Fields has what it takes to be ‘the best quarterback to come out of Chicago Bears history’
Jay Cutler was drafted by the Denver Broncos 11th overall in the 2006 NFL draft. After spending three seasons with Denver, the team tarded him to the Chicago Bears where he played for eight years. During his stint with the Bears, Cutler only managed to lead the team to 3 winning seasons. After his continuous poor performance, failure to win games, and injury-riddled career, the Bears decided to cut the quarterback in 2017.
Despite his bitter-sweet experience in Chicago, Jay Cutler has always been a Bear at heart. He candidly spoke about the future of the organization with Justin Fields at its helm. “If the Bears start winning … I hope they do. And I hope Justin is successful and I hope he’s the next big thing here and he’s the best quarterback to come out of Chicago Bears history,” Cutler said via Chicago Sun-Times.
He also mentioned the harsh realities of playing the position in this city for an organization with such great history. Cutler had some advice for the young gun for his future in the league and with the team. “I like him…he’s got all the tools, but its the same problem the Bears have had for a long time: They’re turning over coaches and turning over OCs. It’s hard for a quarterback,” Cutler added. “You look across the league and the guys that are really good at quarterback have the same coaches and same system every year. This is like learning a different language. It’s like if I told you: ‘Hey, you’ve gotta learn Spanish this year and next year learn Italian and the next year learn Chinese.’ It’s not gonna be easy.”
Justin Fields was touted to be a great QB as his career progresses in the NFL. But his rookie season failed to impress anyone. He played 12 games and scored in only 10 during the 2021 season. He ended the season with only 2 victories with 9 touchdowns and 12 fumbles. With a failed rookie season, all eyes will be set on the 11th overall pick to show his skills and win games for his team.
