“We’d be crazy”- Matt Lafleur drops truth bomb on whether Aaron Rodgers stays with the Packers next season or not
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers was a “little numb” after the Packers lost 13-10 to the San Fransico 49ers. With Saturday’s disappointing loss Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are 0-4 against the 49ers in the playoffs.
After the Packers’ early exit, talks about Aaron Rodger’s future at the organization have resurfaced. In the postgame interview, Rodgers said that loss in the divisional round will have a huge impact on his decision to stay at Green Bay. Rodgers said he needs time to contemplate his choices in the offseason. But he will have a definite answer about his future before the free agency.
“Aaron Rodgers brings a lot to the table”: Matt LaFleur on Rodgers’ contribution other than his QB skills
Packers’ Head Coach Matt LaFleur said he wants Rodgers to stay in Green Bay and play his 18th season as a Packer. “Certainly, we want him back here,” LaFleur said. “I think we’d be crazy not to want him back here. He’s going to be the two-time MVP. This guy does so much for our football team.”
“Not only what you guys see on Sundays or every game day, but what he does in that locker room. How he leads. I just know what he puts into this thing. And certainly, I’m extremely disappointed that we couldn’t get over the hump, for not only him but for everybody in that locker room.”
Aaron Rodgers has achieved greatness with the Packers
Rodgers said that the Packers have a lot of tough decisions ahead since many players are about to hit the free-agent market. “I think this thing is definitely going to look different moving forward,” Rodgers said. “Green Bay has a lot of decisions, a lot of guys with opportunities. So it will be interesting to see what things look like moving forward. But I am thankful for this time, for this team. Super disappointed. Bummed out. Frustrated with how I played tonight. Frustrated with how it ended. But can still be grateful for this season and these guys.”
The Packers are projected to be more than $40 million over the salary cap heading into next season, with pending free agents like star receiver Davante Adams, who could be franchise-tagged if a long-term deal isn’t struck. For 17 seasons, Aaron Rodgers has only played for the Packers. He has won a Super Bowl (XLV), 3 MVPs, and countless other achievements a QB can have in his career with the Packers. However, the Packers have once again missed the Super Bowl despite a dominant season.
Head Coach Matt LaFleur doesn’t want Rodgers to leave the Packers. He hopes they can come back stronger next year. If the Packers go ahead with Jordan Love, that would leave Rodgers to pursue other avenues. Everyone will soon know which way Rodgers decides to swing before the free agency.
