“We’re going to add to the position” Pittsburgh Steelers’ GM, Kevin Colbert, gives a crucial update on the team’s quarterback problems

Pittsburgh Steelers' GM Kevin Colbert
For the first time since 2004, the Pittsburgh Steelers have to find themselves a new starting quarterback. Their legendary signal-caller, Ben Roethlisberger, announced his retirement after the Steelers’ wild card loss in Kansas City.
While the Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t been in this situation for quite some time, Roethlisberger’s retirement doesn’t leave them hanging dry. Backup Mason Rudolph has started a considerable amount of games and they are expected to keep Dwayne Haskins on the roster as well. So, it’s not like they are desperate to find someone to suit up come September.
While they have quarterbacks available, the Steelers will be looking to take advantage of their stacked roster and win immediately. Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins may not be the ideal fit for this team. With the likes of Najee Harris and Chase Claypool on offense coupled with an absolutely loaded defense, this team truly is a quarterback away from being a true contender.
The quality of their roster makes it that much more important that the Pittsburgh Steelers plug in the right quarterback to win immediately. Recently, their general manager, Kevin Colbert, gave an insight about their plans for the position this offseason.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Kevin Colbert was quoted saying “We know we’re going to add to the position. I can’t tell you how at this point. We will go to camp with four. If we had to start today with Mason as our starter, let’s go. We’ll try to build the best team around him.”
Colbert further added “I never view us as being that aggressive, front of the line free agency team. I wouldn’t anticipate that changing, traditionally we haven’t been but, we also haven’t had that cap room.”
While Colbert’s comments may seem a bit demoralizing to Pittsburgh Steelers fans who want a new face in the organization, his comment about having more cap to play with is worth noting. The likely outcome is that the Steelers spend their money building more talent around whoever is their starter. However, there is one name that does stand out.
While there are multiple rumors about the Steelers wanting to draft a quarterback in the first round, it can’t be ignored that Jimmy Garoppolo is available. He would be an almost perfect in the Steelers’ offensive scheme and is a proven winner. Yes, he does have his problems but he could be just enough to take this team to a Super Bowl win.
