The NFL is one of the oldest sports league in the country. The sport of Football has been part of the American culture for over a century now. The Super Bowl is the most watched event in the country and that explains the rich history of the sport dating back to the early 1900s. During the years, many teams have come and gone. However, there is one team that stands out as the oldest team in the league – the Arizona Cardinals.
Currently there are 32 teams in the NFL. Each team has it’s own specialties and legacies. However, today we are going to talk about the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are seriously struggling in the NFL since a couple of seasons. They finished last in their division with an abysmal record of 4-13 while competing with bigger teams like the 49ers in the 2022 season.
However, the Cardinals fans have something to boast about as their team is the oldest team in the NFL. Originally founded in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago, the team began as an amateur sports team. They played a variety of sports, including football, and eventually became known as the Racine Normals.
In 1920, the team joined the newly formed American Professional Football Association, which later became the NFL. The team was renamed the Racine Cardinals in 1922, and in 1925, they won their first NFL championship.
Over the years, the team moved around quite a bit. They moved from Chicago to St. Louis, becoming the St. Louis Cardinals. They made it to the playoffs several times, but they never won a Super Bowl. In 1988, the team moved to Arizona and became the Arizona Cardinals.
Despite their many moves and name changes, the Cardinals remain the oldest team in the NFL. They have a long and storied history, and they continue to be a beloved team in the NFL today.

Arizona Cardinals accomplishments in the NFL
The Cardinals won two NFL championships prior to the Super Bowl era, in 1925 and 1947. They also advanced to the Super Bowl in 2008, but unfortunately lost the game to the Ben Roethlisberger-led Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Arizona based team has also produced multiple Hall Of Fame-caliber players. In total, they have 19 players and 2 coaches inducted into the iconic Hall of Fame. Their notable players list includes the likes of Larry Fitzgerald, Kurt Warner, Aeneas Williams, and Roger Wehrli.
Although, they didn’t have any luck winning the famous Super Bowl, the Cardinals have won their division in total of 7 times including two NFC West titles in 2008 and 2009.
The Cardinals also have great contributions to NFL history. The team and it’s players hold many league records like most career passing yards (Jim Hart), most career rushing yards (Ottis Anderson), and most career receptions (Larry Fitzgerald).
In conclusion, the Arizona Cardinals aren’t just the oldest team in the NFL but also one of the most loved and respected teams that have made the sport what it is today. With new young players in their roster, they will be looking to bounce back to their old winning ways soon.
