Aaron Rodgers is considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL. He is also known by many as the King of controversies for his unnecessary takes on matters that are beyond his comprehension. The most notable one of his controversies was when he threatened to leave the Green Bay Packers.
After the Packers’ surprising exit from the playoffs, speculation about Rodgers leaving Green Bay spread like wildfire. He was linked to many teams including Denver, Tennessee, Miami, to name a few. The final decision about Rodgers’ status at Green Bay will be revealed soon enough.
It’s all about the money for Aaron Rodgers as the star QB wants to be the highest paid in the league by a wide margin
As per reports, the 4x MVP is demanding $50 million per year to stay with the Packers for his 18th season in the NFL. Analyst Nick Wright thinks Aaron Rodgers has gone crazy if he expects the Packers to pay him such a hefty amount. “Who does Rodgers think he is? Tony Romo” Wright asked.
“If he wants $50M/yr the Dolphins, Jets, Broncos & Colts can pretty easily do it. Washington and Pittsburgh, it wouldn’t be easy but they could do it. You know who definitely cannot do it? The Green Bay Packers,” Wright said. “Trust me when I say this, Packers can’t pay him $50M and keep Davante Adams. So, if he wants this money he’s leaving.”
“I have two major takeaways. One I’m really surprised that Aaron Rodgers in this point of his career would be prioritizing an extra 10 or 12 million over an extra Super Bowl appearance. My second takeaway: I don’t think he should be the highest paid QB in football. I don’t think he’s earned that.”
Aaron Rodgers doesn’t have the resume of a $50M/yr quarterback
Granted Aaron Rodgers holds numerous records in the NFL and is one of the best QB in the league, he only has 1 Super Bowl win to his resume. Rodgers and the Packers won Super Bowl XLV in 2011 against the Steelers. He has never appeared in the Super Bowl after this win. Even his playoff records aren’t that great despite being the No.1 team in the league several times.
So, Nick Wright is of the opinion that Aaron Rodgers hasn’t achieved the status of being worthy of receiving a $50M a year contract. “So I think it’s bad news for the Packers’ future, bad news for his chance to win another Super Bowl, and I think it’d be bad business to make Aaron Rodgers the far and away highest paid player in the league.”
