Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar has been in and out of the lineup for most of the 2022-23 season. In the recent game against Detroit Red Wings, the 24-year-old “tweaked something” and was called for rest as of now. He’s out of the lineup and won’t join the Avs in welcoming Chicago Blackhawks at Ball Arena.

According to a recent report, Makar is out with a lower-body injury. During Saturday’s game, the team won against the Red Wings with a 5-1 record, carrying 40-22-6 for the Stanley Cup season. The Norris Trophy winner stated, that he was sore after the injury even though he felt fine prior to it.

Makar returned to Avalanche on March 4 after completing his concussion protocol following two head hits. Currently, this season, he has scored 61 points with 16 goals and 45 assists in 55 games. He also received NHL ‘Second Star’ of the week, as Rangers center Mike Zibanejad captures the first spot.

Apart from Mike Zibanejad and Cale Makar sitting at the first and second spots, Boston Bruins netminder Jeremy Swayman won the ‘Third Star’ of the week. This season, Makar sits in the 2nd spot in the defenceman with 1.11 points per game.

He has won numerous awards and recognitions, some of them notably being, Norris Trophy, Calder Memorial Trophy, and Conn Smythe Trophy. Now with the Abs sitting at the 3rd spot in division rank will be aiming for the top seat as the 2022-23 season reaches its end in April.

Head coach Jared Bednar noted regarding Makar’s lower-body injury, “He’s out. Tweaked something in the Detroit game [on Saturday]. Felt good after. Yesterday, sore. Sore again today”. “Not going to risk it and have it drag on.” “He doesn’t feel great. He doesn’t feel bad. But just where the game was at, no need to put him out”.

Avs fans are quite disappointed learning of Makar’s absence from the team once again, prior to the Stanley Cup season. He’s averaging 26:36 of ice time while standing 3rd with Avs. Although he’ll not be joining the team in the game against Blackhawks, there’s hope that he’ll join the lineup sooner than later.
