Connor McDavid questions NHL rules following Oilers DISASTROUS OT loss to St. Louis Blues

The Edmonton Oilers were upset over Thursday’s NHL call, but Connor McDavid especially couldn’t bear the shock. It’s understandable when a player thinks they won the OT game only for it to be ruled over by the League. That would feel terrible, and we suppose McDavid’s going through something similar.
Just like the fans and his teammates, McDavid appeared to be confused by NHL’s ruling. It was the Oilers who netted Thursday’s game-winning goal in OT against the St. Louis Blues. Unfortunately, it was waived off by the National Hockey League after a detailed review.
It was called that McDavid wasn’t in possession of the puck. As he neared the offensive zone he went over the blueline where the puck came off his stick. As the puck wasn’t touching his stick it was ruled out. The incident happened as McDavid reached the blueline and tried to avoid Ryan O’Reilly.

Later the Situation Room’s explained, “Edmonton’s McDavid preceded the puck into the offensive zone without possession and control and, therefore, was in an off-side position prior to Draisaitl’s goal.”
“A player actually controlling the puck who shall cross the line ahead of the puck shall not be considered ‘off-side,’ provided he had possession and control of the puck prior to his skates crossing the leading edge of the blue line,” according to Rule 83.
The Oilers lost the game as victory slipped from their hands. According to Daily Hive, the captain frustratingly asked, “The league’s got to clarify some of these rules”. “What’s a kick? What’s offside? What’s goalie interference? It depends on the night I guess.”
“Disappointing obviously. Obviously, we should never have even let it get to that point. Just disappointing. Since I was a kid, I thought if you had possession of the puck it’s onside. If I have possession or not, I guess that’s the judgement call. Either way, players just want some clarity on some of these rules,” Connor McDavid continued.
“We’ve been burned on a few kicks and stuff like that and Calgary had the situation last year in the playoffs. It kind of goes back a long way not understanding some of the rules of our own game. It’s kind of funny I guess.”
McDavid hauled the puck off the Blues’ blueline before Leon Draisaitl got hold of the puck and shot the OT goal. While there have been controversies over the play, it’s final when the League makes its decision. The team lost their 18th game of the season.
