Minnesota Wild, for the first time in a few months, has lost a playoff spot that too because of its own team player. Forward Ryan Hartman’s game against the Lightning has hurt not only the player’s efforts but also their chance of winning the game.
The Colorado Avalanche as of now is on a comfortable ride considering the baffling mistake Ryan made in the game. Nothing could have hurt him and the team more than giving the opponent a chance to score against the Wilds in a tight 4-2 loss game.
Usually, a coach covers a player’s mistake. Especially Dean Evason who is known for not being too hard on players’ mistakes, but he too agreed on the “stupid mistakes” made during the game. As Ryan said that he feels terrible for the team’s loss, Dean added on it saying he should feel more responsible for it.

The disastrous game started off when Ryan Hartman skated to a position where he shouldn’t have been. During the puck fight between the Lightning and Wilds, the puck landed on Steven Stamkos’ stick who then slid it across Wilds’ net.
Complications arose when the puck by chance hit Ryan’s chest before landing in the net, indirectly assisting the Lightning in a goal against his own team. Unfortunately for Ryan things didn’t end here. Further into the game, as the Wilds were trying to push it to overtime, Ryan’s mistake drew the final line of the team’s loss.
He was penalized for a hooking call which led to the Lightning for a power play of two with the final 5 minutes left in the game. Even if the Wilds had any hope after Ryan’s puck-bouncing incident, they all lost it to the Lightning’s power play.
Ryan said, “I felt like I let my team down”. “I’m responsible for some of the things that have gone on. Obviously not a good feeling.” To which Dean replied, “He should be hard on himself”. “It’s stupid. Absolutely stupid.”
This was the first time in months during the 2022-23 season that the Minnesota Wilds lost a playoff spot. This will stink quite a bit, as the players, Ryan, and Dean will have to carry the burden off. The Lightning now stands at 30-15-1 while the Wilds carry 25-17-4.
After Ryan’s string of mistakes, he is ruled as a healthy scratch against Philadelphia Flyers. Dean spoke, “He made a mistake two games in a row” . “We talk about accountability. He’s going to be accountable for his actions in the last game.”
“We can’t continually talk about discipline and taking bad penalties and keep taking bad penalties.” “There’s a process. It’s not a spur of the moment thing. It’s been discussed. It’s been talked about, not only with him but with the entire group. If it’s not corrected, then we need to take steps to correct it. This is the step.”
