“Seem like good buds” – Jack Hughes in AWE of Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin as legends team-up during All-Star week

It’s been an amazing week for Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin as they got to share some amazing memories on the ice with the fans. Not only did the fans see them play together they also saw the future legend-in-making Sergei Ovechkin Jr. also take on the ice.

Although fans have rather been uninterested and bashed the NHL All-Star week as “boring”, it is without a doubt a blast when two rivals hop onto the ice playing together. Since their debut in NHL, Ovechkin, and Crosby have often been compared and pitted against.

Whenever their team faced off against each other, the NHL world would look closely. Crosby and Ovechkin stated that at the beginning of their career, it may have been hard to be friends with the tough rivalry going on, but now a couple of years down the line, their rivalry has grown to respect and from respect to friendship.

Alex Ovechkin shares what he and Sidney Crosby plans on doing after retirement

Metropolitan teammate and New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes stated, “Just as a fan, it’s pretty cool”. “So, we got a great seat for that, being on the bench. It’s pretty funny. I see them do that, they’re such rivals but they seem like good buds. It’s pretty cool.”

During the game, both Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby had time to score. Both came up with 3 points although their team lost in the second semifinal round on Saturday against the Atlantic Division 10-6. Crosby commented, “It was 6-4, we had the lead”. 

“After that, it kind of slipped away a little bit. But [it was] fun. It goes quick. All the buildup and then it’s a quick exit. But a fun couple days.” Ovechkin agreeing with Crosby said, “Great weekend”. “Lots of fun moments. Lots of good memories. Lots of video. I enjoyed it. The boys enjoy it. The kids enjoy it. The family enjoy it. So, yeah, it was special moment.”

Pens Inside Scoop posted on Twitter, Ovie’s reply to what he and Crosby would be doing after their retirement from the scene, “I am pretty sure when me and him are retired, we’re just gonna have a couple of beers together and talk about the whole thing and what happened in the past 15,16 years.”

Brady Tkachuk commented on Crosby, “He’s a guy you grew up watching and looking up to. Not only his game, but the leadership off the ice and all that. So to be able to see him, have some conversations with him over this weekend – it kind of makes you feel like a fanboy again”.

It wasn’t only NHL players who sang praises of Crosby and Ovechkin, but also Metropolitan Division coach Rod Brind’Armor who stated he wanted to see both legends play together and was happy to have his wish fulfilled. 

Rod commented, “‘Ovi’ and Sid [are] guys that have taken the torch from the Gretzkys and it went to them, and now Sid and Ovi have done so much for the game of hockey”. “And you’ve got the younger guys seeing them do it, and that’s how it has to happen.”
