The ongoing 2022-23 season has seen a lot, running from victories to injuries, and mistakes to rebounds. New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba to has experienced his rebounding moments quite a bit following his struggles to keep his mistakes in check.

He is very well known for his mishaps as some say it’s even become a trend. Unlike the generally upsetting reaction, the 28-year-old captain has learned from his mistakes and is continuously in the process to improve himself. The Rangers coach has seen it all and is fully supportive of the 28-year-old defenceman.

After practice on Wednesday, coach Gerard Gallant stated, “He’s fine”. “He’s battling hard, he’s competing hard, he’s a big part of our group. He makes mistakes like every other player in the league. Cost us one goal last game, but that happens.”

“That’s part of the game. Troubs rebounds [from] that real well. That’s what you like about veteran players and a guy like him. He’s not going to let a mistake [affect him]. If you caused a goal, well move on and get ready for the next shift. That’s what you like about pros like that.”

Some games where Jacob Trouba made mistakes cost the team their precious victory. His costly turnovers were once again noted during Monday’s game against the New Jersey Devils though the Rangers won 4-3 in OT.

They must have gotten used to Trouba and trust that he will not repeat his doings. The team is currently running on their fourth straight win of the 2022-23 season. Monday’s mishaps led the Devils to run their stride for a couple of goals. The first shot by Devils forward Tomas Tatar was saved by Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin.

The following shot found its net home as Devils Nico Hischier put the team on 1-0 in the starting half of the game. Trouba noted, “It happened, move on. I don’t really dwell on it. Can’t change it”. Gallant said in for of Trouba, “Let’s face it, he tried to flip a puck and it didn’t flip, so you can’t blame a guy for that”.

“We laugh about it all the time. NHL, there’s a lot of times when you’re under pressure flipping pucks and sometimes you miss them.” “But no, it’s part of the game. You get pressure on you and you make a mistake. But it’s about rebounding from a mistake. There’s not one player in this league that doesn’t make mistakes.”

It’s true that as an NHL player you’ll make mistakes, learn and grow from them. What Trouba is doing is gathering his experiences and pushing past them for a better play. As it stands currently, his team coach is supportive of him, as the captain is indeed making progress on the way.
