Ugly details regarding Calgary Flames’ former head coach Darryl Sutter and the players have been revealed following the latest interview. Although Sutter was fired on May 1, he has yet to fail in appearing on search news. Following his departure, several players have come forth to talk about how rotten the situation went under Sutter’s guidance.
Not only did the Flames fail to advance in playoffs, but many players pinned Sutter for the outcome. One of them who supposedly had the worst relationship with the former head coach was alternate captain Mikael Backlund. According to MacKenzie Weegar, there were a lot of “F**k you” exchanges between the duo in the dressing room.
Moreover, it was reported that Darryl Sutter had gotten physical with many players. Not only as a head coach is the action wrong, but it made the player atmosphere worse as the team had been competing under “negative influence” since the regular season to lead into playoffs.

In a recent exchange, it was revealed that Mikael Backlund blasted Darry Sutter stating, “F**k you…F**k you Darryl…Go f**k yourself.” This toxic relationship between the duo also landed the 34-year-old Swedish forward into the trade market.
He’s been one of the longest-tenured players on the Calgary Flames roster and has been a driving force for the team. Even with all the tension going on between the players and the coach, he proved to be a leader in the fight for moving forward.
As of now, there’s no guarantee whether the alternate captain will choose to sign an extension, given head coach Ryan Huska who’ll pull the reign now. Backlund stated that “It’s not about money” but more “about the future and what I want to do.”
If Backlund chooses to continue his journey with the Flames, he’ll likely be crowned as the next captain. During an interview, the forward took a shot at the 64-year-old stating how his influence promoted “negative leadership” in the locker room.
Talking about the behind-the-curtain scenes, he stated, “There wasn’t much of a difference from him.” The thing that sting-ed the most was the team unable to get the win to advance into playoffs. He said it’s tolerable if the “leadership style works” but when you lose “you don’t sync well”.
“There was a lot of negative leadership and it can be tough.” But if it can make the team win the match “you can live with it” if not, it only becomes tougher. After Sutter packed his bags out of Calgary, a lot of behind-the-curtain scenes were revealed by the players. Even now, fans are looking forward to finding out more details about what went down in Calgary.
