Marc-Andre Fleury and Sidney Crosby have been good friends since the goalie’s time with the Penguins. They have been maintaining a great relationship despite Fleury being the netminder of the Minnesota Wild. It wasn’t a long time before when the goalie played a prank on Crosby during 2022 NHL Media Day.
Having been playing with ‘The Next One’ for quite some time, Fleury compared Wild star Kirill Kaprizov to him. He states that Crosby and Kaprizov have much in common. Both rose to stardom following their debut in the NHL spotlight. Kaprizov is carrying a decent record into the 2022-23 season and is expected to rise as one of the NHL’s elite players.
Nevertheless, Fleury and Kapirizov have led the Wilds to victory quite a few times. Even if the NHL elite is a bit far off, for now, Kapirizov surely has started becoming one of the franchise’s best. Fleury comments that the young Wild forward has the same physical features to play and the display of pure skill.
Marc-Andre Fleury talks about Kirll Kaprizov following footsteps of Sidney Crosby
Despite one being the NHL rookie and the other the veteran, Sidney Crosby, and Kirill Kapirzov both acquired 71 points in the 2022-23 season. Marc-Andre Fleury states, “Reminds me of Sid a bit. The way he’s built: big legs, big butt. Short, fast, goes to the corner, battles, big hits.”
“Finishes his checks: Defence, comes back in zone, helps out. It’s all similar to Sid. Obviosuly he’s got a great finish too.” During Fleury’s time at Pittsburgh, he was not only a teammate and friend to ‘The Next One’, but also a fan favorite, and a beloved player of the locker room.
Fleury and Crosby have often crossed paths even as opponents now, but their friendship has always been maintained in good health, including pranks and revenge games. In 196 games, Kirill Kaprizov has recorded 230 points with 119 assists and 111 goals.
Currently, the forward is leading the Wild in scoring points and has run deep into postseason games. On the other hand, the veteran Pens captain is dauntlessly leading his team to victories, ignoring the warning signs of his age.
Sidney Crosby with Evgeni Malkin is one of the Penguins’ oldest players. Both of them in the running season have produced extraordinary results despite the team’s losing streak. They have been carrying the Penguins so far in the season, but with the lack of output by other players, the team lost four of its past matches.
Their loss against the Edmonton Oilers has stung the most as fans cried out in despair at PPG Paints Arena and on social media platforms. Head coach Mike Sullivan is trying his best to coax GM Ron Hextall for trade, but to no use as of now.
