Minnesota Wild lost to the offensive drive of the Buffalo Sabres resulting in the Wild’s 6-5 OT loss. Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury took the loss heavily, not forgiving himself for allowing goals into the last period. The team’s sleepy start resulted in the Sabres taking advantage of the opportunity.

After the game, many discussed how the Wild players didn’t take control of the puck in their zone properly. Fleury being Fleury took upon the blame himself, though this team reportedly never cornered him. Shortly after following the team’s loss, the netminder left NHL ice for a break regarding “deep personal matter”.

The 2021 Vezina Trophy winner has a .901 save percentage in 25 games for now. Fleury who holds himself to a higher standard found it hard to digest the team’s lax attitude in the game against the Sabres. As of now, the netminder is not with the Wild but will join them ahead of Tuesday’s match against the New York Rangers.

Marc-Andre Fleury who is mostly described as always smiling and a polite player has been seen smashing things after the 6-5 OT loss. According to The Athletics, Mike Russo commented that the netminder was smashing, cursing, and apologizing to his teammates after their tough loss.

The loss is hard to take as it was only 1 goal short of the win. The 5 goals that the Sabres made would’ve won the game, has it not been the Wilds coming strongly to 5 goals. The last overtime goal left a horrible taste in the mouth of Fleury, and the team layers.

For now, Fleury is absent from the team due to personal issues. During his absence, the team will either use Filip Gustavsson or Zane McIntyre against the St. Louis Blues. Zane has a shot to don the Wild’s jersey as Filip recently recovered from a stomach bug.

After Saturday night’s performance, Russo mentioned that the goaltender repeatedly muttered to himself, stating, “Score five … should be a win every time. I feel bad for the boys”. “Some of the best players are hard on themselves, but he has nothing to be mad about”.

“Really nothing. Everything they had were given to them by plays by us. We turned the puck over, we took penalties, we screened him, we didn’t take care of the front of our net, just gave up heavy shots over and over. Just self-inflicted by us, not Flower.”
